Replacing thermostat

1990 T4r 4x4 Automatic:

Searched the topic in the T4r forum, I probly did not browse back far enough; seemed limited info for the Classic T4r vehicles? I came to 1 'how to' article where member's made comments one should include the thermostat housing in their list of replacement parts; believe the article related to the later model Toyota's? ?

Interested in member's input regarding replacing the thermostat; I purchased the thermostat and seal. My experience dictates it can not be as basic as removing the lower radiator hose, the 2-3 nuts securing the thermostat housing to the block, install the replacement parts, then torque to spec's? Not clear regarding the comments about replacing the thermostat housing?

Greatly appreciate suggestions as to what to look for on a task that appears relatively basic, if there are step missed, or issues that may surface in the procedure.

Nothing comlicated about it, IF 22RE. However I suggest:
1) You thoroughly clean (soak in vinegar and steel-brush) the temp sensors AND the threads where they mount. The CSI timer switch needs good electrical contact with engine block in order to work properly.
2) You make sure to eliminate air in the system by burping it.
Thermostat simply needs a gasket that wraps around its circumference.

I thank you, greatly appreciate the link to the threads, it leads me to believe the issue is not only with the thermostat but also with the other components mentioned? I am going to 1st ID the items location on the V6 before taking on the task.

From reviewing comments and 'how to' video's it does not seem like it will be a labor intensive job; however, locating them will be my major challenge? Appears there are a number of green colored electrical connectors thou out the engine compartment, imagine the components I am searching for are in the most dark and hidden cavities in the engine compartment.

Couple issues: *unable to accelerate until the engine reaches normal temperature range. * engine runs around 1500 RPM until it reaches normal temp. then RPM drops, at which point the 4r runs fine??
