Hey everyone!

I know I'm pretty new around here, but I would like to ask a favor.

I've been searching for quite some time for a 3rd gen 4runner 4x4 5speed for quite some time (2.7 or 3.4l) around Sioux Falls, SD with no luck at all. I found only one that matched the criteria, and found it had extensive frame rot. I check CL and all sorts of dealerships and online classifieds daily to no avail.

So here's what I'm asking, would you guys keep an eye out on your local ads for a 4runner like this for me? I'm sorry I know it's asking a lot, and I'm getting desperate, I just sold my car and I need to find something else soon, and I think I might have to give up on my 4runner dream, and settle for some little truck or something.

If you decide to help: first off thank you very much. Second off here are my main criteria for my 4runner:(listed most important to least important)

3rd Gen (or maybe a 2nd if it's really well taken care of 22re)
4x4
5speed
No extensive rust issues
<$7000
<200k miles
It would be cool to have a rear diff lock

I would be willing to fly somewhere for it if it was a good enough deal and in good condition

Thank you for reading, feel free to post/pm any links to 4runners.

There is a 98 in Oregon on CL

It's 9,000 obo
Has new motor with warranty

(541)232-8190

Sorry I don't know how to do a link to the add, he's asking 9 but I'm thinking 8 might be a happy half way point for both of you.
Give it a shot, if it's anywhere close to Portland I might be able to check it out for you

thanks for the help so far guys!

I looked at the one in OR, and I'm going to contact that guy later and see if he cant send me some pics.

The St.Louis ones are all autos with higher mileage, I wasn't too interested, but thank you very much for looking, I really appreciate it.

I also looked at ATL craigslist, and I found a few I really liked, one in particular:
https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/4365550183.html
and plane tickets there are relatively cheap (300 bucks one way) does anyone on here live near Gainesville,GA that would be willing to check this one out for me?

I also found a pretty nice one in Helena, MT:
91 toyota 4runner
I was wondering if anyone lives near there and would maybe be able to take a look at it for me before I spend 500 on a plane ticket?

Alright thank you, I'm not sure how I feel about the milage on those ones.

I know this is the 3rd gen forum, but I found a 2nd gen with a 22re that has a new longblock in it 3k miles ago, is a longblock pretty much the equivalent of a new engine?

I frequently check bismanonline.com for toyotas, sometimes theres good ones on there I would buy if i were looking for another. Its bismarck/mandan based so its not too far from you compared to other places

I've had 3 2nd gens and 3 3rd gens. The 3rd gens are night and day better. They are more reliable (3.4 vs. 3.0 'head gasket eaters' - the 3.4 is one of the best motors Toyota has made), have much more power (though neither is a race car, the 3.0 won't climb a steep hill on the highway without losing speed, and I'm guessing a 2.7 in a 3rd gen won't do any better), the transmissions in the 2nd gens had overheating problems, the 3rd gens ride much better on the highway and especially on the trail, and they have more room, are safer (no airbags in the 2nd gens), and there are probably a lot more parts for the 3rd gens, not to mention the 2nd gens are getting really long in the tooth (95 was the last year - I've had 2 of them).

I'm looking for the same thing, except I want a 2.7 and lower miles, so have been writing off everything over about 140k. Since you are willing to go a little higher I definitely think you can find one, and within your budget. In the last few weeks I've seen interesting western 5 speeds here and there in the 180k+ range, some with lockers. Not many, but they're out there. I don't recall anything coming up in the last couple of days, but next time I see one I'll PM you.

Combatman I'm thinking of selling mine. Tons of work and after market stuff added 5 spd 4x4 on 35's with only 114k on it. But I'm all the way in California

Well i would consider a flight out there if its priced right, do you have a list of things you've done to it? also and maintenance records? and pictures of course!

also that Ad Hunt'r is pretty cool, thank you! I wish I would have found that a long time ago

I have a huge folder full of stuff. If you're really interested send me a p.m. With your email and I'll send you all the info. I haven't even put it on Craigslist. I know it will go fast when I do. This rig is clean. I also work for Toyota so pretty much everything has been oem parts.
