Requirement for Beach Driving at Cape Lookout

For anyone planning to drive on the Core Banks beaches at Cape Lookout National Seashore, I ran across a recently instituted requirement. This was not in place when we went a couple of years ago, and from this article it appears it was instituted in early 2017.

It's free and take a couple of minutes so it's not a big deal. Here's a link to the needed certificate.

This appears to be specific to Cape Lookout for the moment as I could not find anything similar for other NPS locations in a quick Google search.

Interesting, I was just there last week and I didn't have to do this.

As near as I can tell, in National Park Service parlance, ORV refers to a 4wheeler, ATV, Razor, side-by-side, etc., whether street legal or not. ORV does not usually refer to an SUV such as a 4runner, even if said SUV has offroad capability. Canyonlands NP, for example, specifically forbids ORV's on their back roads, but Jeeps, 4runners, FJ's, 4wd pickups, etc., are obviously OK.

Confusing, and best to check to make sure with the governing agency.

My girl was killing the lizardfish with a jigfish and got-cha plugs. It was her first time fishing with anything other than a bottom rig, I was super impressed!

I caught a couple of small blues on a spoon and then a bunch of misc fish like croakers on the shrimp bottom rig. Lots of fun!

Cool, I am headed to Hatteras for my second trip this year at the end of Aug. I would love to get into some Reds but love to catch anything but skates.

Much different than Cape Hatteras National Seashore. You need to watch a 5 -7 minute video and PAY a fee for a week or yearly pass for beach driving. No ATV or the such. Must be registered road going vehicles. This has been in place for quite a few years now.

Heading down to Ocracoke on the 14th for a week. Can't wait to get my new truck on the beach to see how it does. I can then compare to my other SUV vehicles I've had in the past. If your on Ocracoke the week of 15th to the 22nd and see a Super White 2018 4Runner with surf rods mounted on the roof, stop and say hi. Hope South Point stays open when i'm there. <"}}XX><

Always wanted to go down to the Core Banks. Someday my wife and i will get there.
