Who is our resident rust specialist?

Found a SWEET runner. Super low mileage, has been babied its whole life. All service records. But the rust is there. Anybody mind me emailing them the pictures? My gut reaction is to pass, but this is the perfect scenario truck, low mileage, one owner, etc.

I'm a southern kid. I have never dealt with rust. Even on old vehicles.

I had a Tacoma fail frame check and they replaced it...I had to show the dealership in Oregon what they were looking for...not sure if that makes me an expert but I did grow up in MI and have seen a lot of rust.

Can post pics on this thread to and draw in more people...get the rear lower control arm brackets, transmission cross member mount area, under the front doors where the frame curves in to clear the wheels, and the cab mounts.

My Taco's cab mount sheared off, and then I found a 7" perforation in the frame right under the driver's door.
 
That is a no...unless the price is right for the body and parts to sell off. Almost all of your control arm mounts are going to bust off...I doubt you will get any bolt off of that axle/drivetrain without snapping it.

That is a bad one...
 
Man, even the second to last photo shows a lot of perforation in the straight parts of the frame....that is way worse than my Taco was...

Hit it with a hammer...I kid you not, that is the test. You will smash right through that thing.
 
One owner. Serviced at a Toyota dealership. 60k miles on the odometer. What a shame...I think I am becoming emotional attached to third gens. Makes me sad to have to write this one off.

I know I am posting a lot on this, but I can't stop myself. This is bad.

Anyone that doesn't know rust or thinks this is repairable is a lunatic or can fab up their own frame. Every bolt on this truck is going to give you problems. Try removing a shock...not going to happen. Want new calipers? Good luck. Oh, how about some LBJ's...in your dreams. Sure, you can drill out each snapped bolt, maybe you can weld on a new mount.

I called the guy up and told him I am going to pass. I appreciate you weighing in. I just HATE that such a low mileage runner is trashed due to rust. 60k miles! it was owned by a little old lady he chose to drive her Lexus verus the runner the majority of the time.
 
Yeah that thing is toast. I think what happened is they drove it sô little and parked it with salt underneath which just ate it away.
 
I bookmarked this thread for future reference on what to avoid. Thanks for posting lots of pics, most people just post a couple, you posted the whole vehicle. I wish the craigslisters would post this many pictures.

Seriously, now I gotta go under mine and have a look and compare to see how close mine is to this.
