Response to "Gas Price" arguments?

I'm not very graceful with my comebacks, I tend to come off verbally abusive when confronted with the sort of arrogant reactions that you've been getting.
Maybe you can just be like "I didn't really feel like spending 'new car' money on something I wouldn't enjoy driving", or "If I was worried about gas prices I wouldn't really be paying 30 grand for a car now would I?"
or better yet "i'm actually banking on prices coming down since I know you and most others won't be using as much of it in your civics"
and lastly "yea you're right, it totally sucks having a big, powerful, capable, safe vehicle, totally not worth the marginal difference in gas money"

26mpg is probably all highway so it works for you but real world driving most 4Runner owners don't see over 20mpg and if gas prices fly over $5/gal next spring values will be taking a big hit so it's a choice some people can afford and others have to make a more MPG concious decision.

Who know where fuel prices are going to go. We were already supposed to be over $5.00 by now (per the experts and the media driven hype/scare tactics).
Yes the big vehicles are taking a hit , but everything is taking a big hit. cars , trucks , suv , mini vans , crossovers (if the is such a thing).
