Just wanted to bounce an idea off you guys...
My last smog (CA) was barely passing in the NOx category and it's that time of year again. From what I've learned, nitrogen oxides (NOx) are created by high cylinder temps as a result of high compression, a lean air/fuel ratio, pre-detonation or a combination of the above.
What I was wondering is, if I fabbed a restrictor plate in the airbox before the filter/maf sensor, would that help cut my emissions down? If less air = less fuel (because of the maf and a/f ratio sensor) then less air and fuel = less emissions, right?
I know this will cause some power loss, but, will it even work in the first place? A bigger/less restrictive intake should work inversely by the same idea...
This is all theoretical, I've already done plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, atf change (2qts.), coolant flush and running premium fuel (91) in preparation for the smog test. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.
