QUESTION: is there a way to swap over the automatic switches into the manual ones to have ALL 4 windows have the automatic function feature??,,,,

Pretty sure this has been covered a few times before. I think the consensus was that it would be pretty involved - not just a plug and play type thing.

Yeah, that master switch module is really a little computer, and the rear switches are just not wired for that capability. Just changing the single switch won't do anything. You'd have to design a module from scratch with two more auto circuits in it, as near as I can tell. The auto circuits have to be able to sense that the motors have reached the end of their travel and are stopped, thus drawing more current. When that happens, they cut the power. That's in the module, not the switch.

cool thanks for the info..... maybe it might be cool to swap the single "automatic" switch on the front passenger door to the two rear passenger doors???? since its just one switch and not a cluster of switches

Well, maybe, but maybe not. The one other big thing is the auto motors in the front have a pulse sensor built in which senses if a child's neck or other object is in the way of the closing window, and then reverses and opens the window. That circuit is missing from the rear window motors. I could not in good conscience recommend a kludge to give you auto up without that feature installed.

well i greatly dislike that feature... i mean if i want to crush a child's neck with my window i should be able to.....


do you think if the "switch" works with just swapping it, the rear windows will just keep attempting to roll up even though it can't anymore??? kind of like if you just hold the button down

I don't understand the question. You couldn't "just swap it", you'd have different plugs and wires would have to be matched up one by one. Let alone the physical issue--I don't know if there is room for a front passenger module in the rear door handle or if it would just snap in.

Are you asking what would happen if there WAS an object? Yes, it would be the same as if you held the button. It could do a pretty good impression of a guillotine, in my humble opinion.
 
Not much help here but I had the idea of auto up and down up front too. I've heard the regulators are different but never confirmed. I have the switches and bought door wiring harnesses from an auto up and down 4runner but life got in the way, never progressed with the project. I figured there might be some pins to swap at the door to body plug to get things in the right spots but that's as far as I got.

That is exactly what would happen. You'd have to replace the motors in the rear doors, and add the wiring too. If I thought I'd ever do it, I could figure it out, but I know I won't because it would cost more than it's worth to me. Maybe you could be "that guy" who figures it out and does the write up!?

It's possible. I have auto up and down windows in my 89 Camaro. There's a guy that sells harnesses with relays that allows this. But to make it yourself it would be extremely involved and you'd really have to know what you are doing.

I'd be more interested in getting the 4th gen rear window auto up/down in our trucks.
