cool video. it would be nice to see some screenshots of the light displayed on a wall or something.

Also it would be great if you can list and inventory of the parts and where you bought them ect. I am sure it is an easy mod based on the video.

i will get the picture of the beams on the wall later but the parts you need is very little. You only need a H3 HID kit. I got mine from ebay for about $35.
 
Sorry to bring back a very old thread but I had two questions about this for you. Does swapping to HID do anything to the casing, heat damage, melting. etc.?
And do you know if this would work on the black magic lights too?

No heat problems at all. I never did a conversion on the black magic but it looks similar enough to the 500 so I don't think it will be any different in the conversion process.

I decided to do the Hella 500ff seems to give out more light and the money savings would be nice, may even get four of them and and HID swap two.
I appreciate you responding. Makes me really want to try this now.
 
I had 6 55W Hella 500's on my 05 Tacoma before I sold it and these will put any LED bar or any light on the market to shame for their cost.

I didn't drill the hole in the back of mine instead I heated the housing and using the end of a screw driver pushed out some room for the back of the HID bulb. I then routed the wires through the stock holes by disassembling the plugs so that they fit.


If you want to know how to take apart the plugs check out my write up on stock HID fog lights in my sig. I would also recommend going with VVME brand HID kits. They are still an eBay kit from china, but out of all of the kits that I have bough they are the best. Superb customer service and I never had a ballast die on me in the 3 years I had the truck.
