returning from Tahoe hell and needing help…..

Okay, so a little back story. I had a great 97 4runner 2.7 ltr with manual tranny. had to sell it cause the wife couldn't/wouldn't drive a stick. spent a couple years in a Tahoe but I am back in a 4Runner. Just need a little help now.

I have bought a 1994 3.0 auto Runner. I want to lift it and I am looking at the OME lift with the torsion bars. How much lift will I get with this and will 285/75 R16 tires on late model 4runner wheels fit under it without an issue?

Thicker torsion bars don't give you lift, you still have to crank them to achieve that, and the lift you get is directly proportional to how much worse your ride gets. That's why guys use ball joint spacers. :)

Thicker torsion bars are good if you're packing more weight in front (bumper, winch, motor swap). If you've got an otherwise stock front end, there's really no need to upgrade there.

okay, that's cool. i did not know. the runner has a bull bar on the front end already but i won't be adding a winch or anything.

I guess I can chime in here and give my experience...

I had my torsion bars cranked up on my 1991 runner and the ride was stiff, i was bouncing around on every lil bump on the road. I eventually decided to purchase the OME complete lift kit (Ball joint spacer, 4 shocks, and taller rear coil). I lowered the torsion bars back down and the ride is a lot better now and I got around 2-2.5 lift from the OME. You can check out my rig in my garage if interested, all the specs are on there.

I'm running 15x10 with 33/12.5/15 MT... With mild trimming and a little hammering I only have a slight rub when cranked at full turn.

I actually decided to go with kyb shocks and moog coils. 265/75 r16 toyo tires, now just need some nice late model 16" wheels!
 
gotta crawl underneath it and figure out oxygen sensors, gonna replace those and does anyone know of a better MAF for the 3.0? i have about $1500 worth of stuff coming already lol.

Running boards removed, first thing. DONE! Interior gutted for shampoo. DONE. Dash taken apart for new speaker and radio install. DONE. Tires on the way, just need some late model 16" wheels. Not a lot of them on Craigslist this way.


Best part of it, my wife made one hell of an assistant. Never knew she could tell the difference between a wrench and a screwdriver.

Okay, now that I am back from a wonderful weekend getaway/ football trip to NYC and it was time to get back to work on the Runner. Added clear corners and parking lenses. Tuneup, K&N filter, thermostat, new speakers all around and ALL the fluids changed. Drives like a different vehicle, I love it.

Need some ideas for the next mods, I'm not an off road guy. I just want something capable when I tow this-------

just a camping trailer for the wife, friends and I. So, some mild stuff only

Trani cooler, good floor mats, and trans temp monitor. Simple stuff to keep your t4r nice
