REVO 70 are HUGE!

I was at the dealer today checking out the big father day weekend sale and having myself a free hot dog and drink while I'm their and the first thing I notice was the tire on the new 4R and taco( same size). after having my REVO 265/70 for over a month now and looking back at the stock 65 series tire they just look so darn small compare to the 265/70 REVO! I'm so glad I got the 70 REVO cause they RIDE a lot better and FILL the wheels well better too! I don't think I 'll ever go back to the 65 series tires!

once you go BIG you don't go back!:D

EDIT: 4 got to mention they L@@K a lot better too!:yesyes:

this might be a stupid question...but what "inch" are you all talking about?

a 65 or a 70 series tire is really nothing more than the relationship in percent of the width of the tire in mm vesus the sidewall height in mm

unless you all have sat there and actually figured that there is an extra "inch" in sidewall height of the 70 series versus the 65 series (which by all my accounts is kinda a waste of time) then where did the inch come from?

I agree but what about the less fuel efficiency and slight power loss due to the larger size? No regrets at all?
 
I know what the tire size calculators say about the change in the speedometer but what is your real world experience? Have you check the speedo vs. a roadside radar gun? How many miles an hour is yours off with the 70's?

Side question... if the 70's are narrower won't this hurt your off road capabilities? especially in mud?

These specs are from Bridgestone;

70/65 - overall diameter 31.7"/30.5" - tread width 7.8"/8.0"

To tell you the Truth I did not fell any power lose with the 70s . If it did its minimum . as for the MPG I lose maybe 1 mpg with it on but when I got the 4R I knew it was not good on gas in the first place.. so no I have no regrets and would do it all over again.

Its not a waste of time, the tire size calculator does the math for you!!!

PLus the price difference is about 10-20 bucks per tire, 70's are cheaper , and bigger why not get em?
 
Be careful here...not all tires (of the same size) are created equal.

Just because two tires (of different brands) have the same stated size doesn't mean they are.

For example, last year I started doing research for new tires for my '99 Alero...225/50R16.

What I found looking at the spec sheets for various manufactures (GoodYear, BridgeStone, Yokohoma, etc.) was interesting...

For overall diameter and revs per mile...they pretty much matched each other.

However, for tread width...it varied greatly (as much as 1+ inches) between manufactures. Some stated 9in treadwidth while others stated 8.5 or 8.0in treadwidth. I'm sure some of the differences might be due to how the 'treadwidth' is measured. I'm talking treadwidth here...not section width.

When available, also found significant differences in tire weight, too...
 
As a matter of fact, on the tirerack website...the treadwidth for the OEM Dunlops (265/65R17) is the same as the treadwidth for the same (brand) Dunlops for 265/70R17...

Good to hear!
Maybe it is the BFG's that people seem to notice the loss in power/mileage more. 1 MPG is not much to be concerned with....I can gain this back by taking the mega warrior of the top.

The one disadvantage to the 70s is you have to change your spare also. Having different sized tires with the 4wd engaged could cause problems.

I still (meaning no one has set me straight yet) don't see why this would be a problem with an open differential. Maybe a funny wear pattern on the diff gears if you complete your 500 mile vacation without changing back, but an hour or two of driving, I don't see the problem.
 
The V6 guys have a work around. Put the tire that is smaller on the front wheels in leave it in 2HI until you can get a replacement.

JB,

I have run a search on this very subject and did not come up with a definitive answer. I'm going start a new thread and see if anyone has had any problems.
