Revo Pressure question P 265/70/17

I've been having some traction issues with my Revos in snow ( they have 36,000 miles ) . After posting in the last couple of Revos threads about lack of snow traction I thought I better check my pressures before I stick my foot im my mouth any further.

Here is my situation ..... my truck is parked in a garage attached to my house , it stays at 60* in winter , it's insulated and heated. Now I went out and checked my pressure and it's at 30psi. The truck has been inside all day at that temp. When I leave to go drive , naturally I go out into 15-20* temp. weather .

I guess basically was wondering what the pressure should be inside . In summer I run them at 40psi . It seems like I would have the best traction on lower pressure like 32psi or so or am I wrong and should bump it up a bit.

Tires have been on since Feb.06 and have been rotated every 5,000 miles since new.

Any thoughts or have they just been loosing traction because of tread depth. My gas milage has been good but a little lower in winter , ride has been good , tire noise is normal , wet weather traction is good. Snow traction being the issue.

you have to remember that the compound of the tire hardens as temperatures decrease. in addition with cold soak, you could be looking at max about 3psi for every 10degree temp change that the tires see.

so...you could be running into a situation where the tires are actually starting to bow in the lower temps and with the hardening of the compound you are getting those traction issues. Try pumping up the pressures asbout 5psi

i have been told that in snow/ice condition to bump up the pressure. more surface area would float on top where as less surface area cuts through.

I dont know how they got that low , I think the dealer did it on my last oil change or something because I keep pretty close tabs on that stuff.

I put 40psi in and seems much better than at 30 in the snow. Still slides alot , but seems to have better control.

I never have problems with them in the snow! Hmmmm...I would add abotu 4psi to whatever pressure you are running after being in the 60* garage. That way, when the temp drops outside to abotu 20-30, you should be at the pressure you really want.

I put them at 40 after it was out in cold weather.

Seems to have helped. I had it at the dealer for oil change , so I don't know why they set them so low. I always specify 40.
