Revos in 265/65-17

I noticed in the got stuck post that dcampen dicovered that they are now making Revos available to folks with 4th gen 17" wheels. Must have just come out, because they are still not at tirerack, etc. Only on the bridgestone site, and pretty well hidden there.

So does this end the dicussion about which tire to get in this size? Or are the cross-terrains still in the running?

I have the Dunlops, so I assume that I will be replacing them in the relatively near future.

Even with it being available in 265/65-17, I would/will seriously consider it in 265/70-17 to gain the extra half inch height and 2% gain in circumference (better mileage).

It all depends on what you need out of your tires.

How do you figure that larger diameter will give you better gas mileage? Since the Revo 265/70-17 are heavier (43 lbs) than the Revo 265/65-17 (40 lbs) or the H/T 265/65/17 (36 lbs) I would expect gas mileage in city driving to decrease since there is added rotational inertia to overcome every time you accelerate. In highway driving I would expect, at best, no change in mileage.

My theory is that once the momentum is established, the small weight differential (which may be shipping weight, not actual weight, correct?) will be overcome by the greater distance traveled with each rotation of the tire.

Of course, when you do the mileage calculations, you'd need to adjust because the odometer reading would be roughly 2% off of what it was before.

No it is tire weight not shipping weight. The values come from the Bridgestone specification sheet - it clearly says "tire weight".

The energy required after the tire reaches full rotational velocity is not the question. The question is how much energy is required to bring it up to rotational velocity. I will try to get out my old Physics textbook this weekend and see if the reduced rotational velocity due to the larger diameter will compensate for extra weight - I guess not.

Seems to me it is pretty simple. More weight = less mileage.

The greater diameter might make a teeny bit of difference getting them rolling, but I doubt you could even measure the difference.

I'd prefer to have my speedometer and odometer be more accurate.

I have had the 265-70-17 REVO since last September and my mileage did not change one bit on my 03.

They fit fine, no rubbing, don't let me get stuck in beach sand, and look great. They are very quiet, provide a smooth ride and are excellent wet road tires.

I highly recommend the 265-70-17 REVO.

Odometer and speedomoeter are now off by about 2% from what they were before, right?

I have checked my speed and distance with my GPS and if it is off, it is so small a margin that I can't tell a difference looking at the speedometer at highway speeds.

If there is any difference at all in speed and distance, it is so small, it is inconsequential.

265/65/17 Revos 4 ply only?

Unless I'm mistaken, the Revo tires for 17" wheels are available only in a 4 ply, passenger rated tire. For those of us with off road aspirations, a 6 ply, light truck rated tire would be better. Anyone know if Bridgestone might eventually offer this?

I debating about buying the Revo's in the 265-65/17 configuration.

I don't mind a little more road noise than the stock dunlops but on road ride is a priority. Something good in snow and in the rain but also good enough to be used for crossing streams, light mud and sand. I want to maintain the stock size.

I plan to use them mostly for highway and street but I plan to use them in beach sand and for some trail riding. Does anyone know of a better tire to suit my needs? I will also be pulling a small trailer (2000 lbs) about 6 times a year on trips (100 miles each way).

from the reviews i've read on tirerack, i doubt the revos will be louder than the dunlops. my local bridgestone dealer installed the regular dueler a/t until the 265/70 17 revos arrive (supposedly on back order for 45 days). i'll write up a small comparison when i get them.

Simply put, there is no additional noise over the Dunflops if you switch to the A/T REVO.

Again, they are excellent in sand and rain slick road tires.

As far as I can tell, the Revo's are only available in P-metric's in either of the 2 sizes I'd need -- 265/70 R 17 or 265/65 R 17 for my '04 Sport. I'd like to change out the Dunlops straight away (put 'em back on when it comes time to sell the runner a couple or three years down the road) -- but, if I'm gonna change I would probably want LT's. Bridgestone has all kindsa LT's in 16 inch sizes but not 17 -- bummer.

Funny thing is, Tirerack lists the Revo's under Light Truck category -- what gives?

If i do go with the Revo's I gotta decide on the 65 (stock) or 70 (slightly taller) series. Bridgestone's website lists approved rim widths for the 65 series as 7.5 to 9.5, but on the 70 series lists 7.0 - 9.0. Our sport rims are 7 inches, aren't they? It sure seems that one could mount the 65 series on the stock rims, since that's what came stock -- granted, different brand. What gives?

Yeah, I've read through all the threads. I'm just not sure what to do. But, I do want to be able to take my 4Runner of road over rocky terrain and not worry excessively about having my "passenger vehicle" tires fall apart.

Don't worry, 265/65 and 265/70 tires will fit your stock rims without a problem...don't read too much into those numbers. If you want to make sure, then just head over to your local tire store and check it out.

If you want the best All-terrain tire, then check out the BFG AT KO tires. They are tougher (3-plie sidewall...the only AT tire with this) than any other all-terrain tire, including Bridgestone REVOs. All BFG AT KO's are LT-rated. However, they are somewhat expensive...you pay for quality and capability!

I love my BFG AT KO's!

No, seriously, I agree with you about the BFG's but the problem is, both those and the Michelin's, which are also great tires, are FRENCHY! I really don't want FRENCHY tires.

I would like Revo's, but again, would like LT rated tires.

Yeah, i know that you did a search...but i couldn't help it! I had to do it!

You know...that's what my brother said too when i replaced my M3's tires with Michelin PS2's. Oh well, at least, Michelin is not made in Iraq!

If you're concerned about that, then REVOs are the next best quality thing.
