Rhino rack users - Do you have this problem?

I just got a Rhino Rack with CXB legs. 3 out of 4 of the feet don’t fit all the way around. 1 of them fits perfectly. I’ve driven around the neighborhood but nervous to take it in the freeway. It seems like the whole setup is snug and tight on the rails.

I did some searching and some people have the same issue while others don’t. I called Rhino Rack and they said it’s normal.

Makes me a bit uneasy either way and I just wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue. And if so, is that thing still on your roof and not in someone’s windshield?

I have heard of people having this problem on this forum. I was considering that exact same setup as you and read this online and decided to go with another option.

there's an article on trail 4 runner that installs this exact set up as well and they didn't mention this issue. have you tried opening up the feet completely before setting them on the rails - that seemed to help others. personally I wouldn't like the feet sitting that way and not wrapping around the rail. I am surprised Rhino would say the feet not wrapping around is normal, did they see the pictures?

So the interesting thing is if you scroll to the bottom of the page in the comments section, someone posted a photo very similar to my situation and the author of the article responded:

"Yeah, same issue. I was searching around after we installed ours and found another guy with the same issue. We have had ours like this since the install and no problems. Looks a little sketch but I have thrown a ton of stuff on the rack and not had one problem."

This is driving me crazy. It certainly feels sturdy and I've been doing my best to push it around and drive it on different conditions and so far so good. But its just unsettling. I might have to fork over the money for a backbone rail system.

yes that is the same article. it seems like most people aren't getting a good fit with the CXB. I liked the idea of the backbone for sure, but for me most of the things I'd carry would require crossbars (bikes, wood, cargo basket / box) vs. recovery gear. so I opted for a crossbar set up, but I did like the possibility of the rhino rack on factory rails despite being less functional for me. I spent a lot of time looking at the rhino rack though because I didn't want to remove the factory rail. if you are open to removing the rails there are much more options in terms of products

I no longer have a rhino rack but my CXB feet mounted like that. Had a Frontrunner RTT mounted to it for 2 years, never had a problem.

had the same problem. over time you have to tighten it again as it will expand and the screws will be loose. i only noticed it when my rack was slightly off to one side. after a few months, it will clamp on flush. never had any problems with it not being clamped all the way.
