right brake light...no voltage

bulb is good and all other lights work. i tested for voltage. nothing. 0. anyone have any ideas? socket doesnt look damaged and i tried wiggling and hittin it. nothing. any help is greatly appreciated. also, anyone know what bulb they use for the brake light socket? dude at advance gave me the one it called for, but the contacts didnt match up so i tried the only other one that would fit....i think a 7443 maybe....cant remember at this time.

The fact the bulb didn't fit leads me to this:

First, make sure you are fixing the right bulb. All three sockets all fit in all three holes and once someone gets them crossed it leads to all kinds of confusion. I learned the hard way. Also, the light itself is confusing. So I would make sure all the OTHER lights are working as they are supposed to (reverse, blinker, tail) in the place they are supposed to be.

The Syvania/Osram website gives accurate bulb numbers for these lights.
