Right Front Brake Clicking

Hi All,

I'm hearing a sharp click from the Right (Passenger) Front brake when I am moving in reverse. The noise only happens when I apply the brake pedal. It is not a repetitive noise, unless I take my foot off the brake and then apply it again of course.

A friend mentioned it might be a missing anti-rattle clip? Any thoughts?

Brake rattle/click

Did you recently replace brake components on the front end? It's just the brake pad moving in the caliper. Harmless but annoying. The pads installed during initial assembly don't seem to rattle. Replacement pads, even OEM, always rattle.

It's an easy fix. There is an anti-rattle spring on the rear of each caliper, it's shaped like a "W". Remove it with a needle nose pliers and stretch it out so it prevents the pad from moving in the caliper. It might take a few attempts to get it shaped correctly. You can use the pliers to try to make the pad move back and forth. If it still moves then additional tweaking is needed. It'll all make sense once the wheel is removed. I think there are two springs on each caliper, one on the top and one on the bottom. Perhaps new springs from the dealer might make a difference as well.

And, while the wheel is off clean the entire caliper with brake cleaner. The OEM pads create a lot of dust.

Thanks for the tip. If it stops raining here this weekend, I'll pull a wheel and take a look.

It has been happening since I bought the truck CPO and yes, the dealer had just put all new brakes on.

The left one just started doing it today, hence my revisiting this issue.

I have a noise similar to this... Except its more of a ting noise, like a piece of thin metal hitting something. It only happens when I apply the brake in reverse... No brake work since I have had the vehicle (bought in June of this year)
