Right Rear ABS Wheel Speed Sensor!

A few months ago I had a bunch of lights pop up on my cluster. Brake, VSC Off, VSC TRAC, and ABS. After hooking up to a DTC Scanner I got the following codes:

C0210 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Signal Malfunction
C1223 - Antilock Brake System Control System Malfuntion

With Inspection (Rhode Island) approaching in July, I'm looking to resolve this issue. I ordered and recieved the Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor off Rock Auto. My question..I've read that I might have to remove the Wheel to replace this sensor. Is this true? Or would I be able to slide underneath the Truck and just unplug the old and plug in the new? I'm a horrible mechanic and am hoping to learn more as I work on the 4runner but any help or a point in the right direction is much appreciated.

No need to remove the wheel. It is secured by a single bolt. If it has never been out, it can be quite difficult to get out without damaging it. Not important if you are changing it, but they are not cheap and I would certainly try inspecting and cleaning it first. It may be covered in metal bits or the whole thing might be soaked in oil from a leaking axle seal. In either case, the sensor would not be the issue.

You MAY need to remove the wheel to get to the plug the sensor wire goes to on top of the frame by the shock mount. I have no idea how you get to that thing. I tried without success when I did my frame swap. I left it attached to the truck.

You can check the sensor electrically from a plug under the rear driver's side seat.

Sorry to say, this may not be as simple as you had hoped.

My ABS has been off due to lack of input from RR sensor for a few years now. ABS light on the dash is on, but not required to pass inspection.

I still have brakes, just not ABS.

Checking in to see just how hard it would be to fix... My shade-tree (Subaru certified, works out of his garage) mechanic says to be careful of non-OEM replacement parts...

Does left and right rear use the same p/n? 89546-35030

Went to replace my ABS sensor and it was broken. Now the portion that goes into the hub is stuck. Any tips on how to remove that without doing any damage?
