Right rear storage compartment door - what to do?

So those of us lucky enough to have 99+ 4runners have the neat little tool compartment in the right rear of the cargo area. Which is nice, right?

What's not so nice is that 12+ years of vibration from driving, variations in temperatures probably causing expansion/contraction of plastic has resulted in a door that will not stay put. I'm sure others have had this problem, any ideas? I guess the easiest thing would be to just remove the door and maybe replace it with a cargo net or something similar.

What have other folks done with this compartment?

Why won't it stay put? Is it a problem with the side panel, the door, both? Can the door be repaired? Pictures and an explanation of what the problem is will lead to far higher quality responses.

I just wish I had the bigger '99+ side storage area!

A replacement door is probably something that could be easily had from a part out or junk yard. For a while, I was using that to store a an ar-15 pistol that came with me on camping trips. Now, it houses my tow/snatch straps, some essential tools, a mag light and a couple quarts of motor oil

I would think you could rework the fasterners...meaning lengthen the little arms that swivel and hold it in place if needed.

I've got the same compartment but mine still fits great and stay put.

I made a new door for mine out of 1/4" plywood. I made it so that it hinged a couple of inches up from the bottom. I did this so I still had easy access to the compartment and it didn't interfere with my cargo box. Here's a couple of pics:

I still have my original cover if you are interested. It is grey in color. I tried selling it some time ago, but nobody seemed interested. Here was the sale thread:
