Right rear window, heating element or antenna?

my right rear window, back in cargo area has an element in it similar to the rear gate window but not as big an area. do all the 4runners have this ? is it tied into the rear window defroster element.

It's an AM antenna.

Not all 4Runners, it was standard in Limiteds, I believe SR5s too.

My base doesn't have one and I am not butthurt.

I wish it was actually a defroster, as I happen to never listen to AM--my CBC Radio is on 99.5 FM.

I think it's actually referred to as a "diversity antenna". Both antennas will pick up AM frequencies. The use of two types of antennas improves reception.

I think it must work on FM as well. My vertical antennae in the front fender is broken off, I still pick up radio station fairly well and I live an hour outside any major city.
