Rigid UltraSwing for 5th Gen 4Runner - Anyone using it?

I decided to grab a simple 4 pin trailer wiring harness wired to a cheap tag light, wrapped in black wire loom and a clip to hold the light over the tag. While this is effective and somewhat stealthy, I'll most likely find a more aesthetically pleasing solution later.

Id love to see some photos of your light solution as well as your UltraSwing.

I just got my ultraswing and looking to add this light. Do you have a pic of your install or any tips? Assuming the wire gets in the way when you swing it open? Or some way to run it that keeps it hidden? Thanks.

I’m definitely going with ultraswing mainly because they are local but also they just seem like good ppl lol. We’ll find out soon.

Due to shipping problems with the lights I mentioned before I ended up using a MAXBILT LED tag light mounted upside down and shines up on the plate. also has a tail light which is kinda cool. I wired it to a 4 pin trailer harness from an auto parts store and zip tied the wire up to the Ultra-swing after I wrapped in in black loom. Black zip ties would be ideal but these were handy. Things are hanging a little loose because I was removing the Ultraswing from the truck.

When you add the cost of powder coating into the equation, the Detours of Maine isn't that much cheaper. I'm leaning towards the Rigd unit because of the accessories aspect.

I have it and absolutely love mine. Its a really solid piece. Had a minor issue with the latch due to design flaw but customer service was top notch and they overnighted me a new one.

I use it as a spare tire carrier, mount my rotopax, as well as have the drop down front runner table and rago plate, and its relatively compact compared to other stuff out there. And love that I can take it off if I want to drop weight or cruising around in the city.

Back up camera definitely gets blocked when its on but then again its not a permanent piece like a full bumper. I just leave lots of space when backing up.

Only cons I didn't like was the design of the rago plate that mounts to the swing out. The hole spacing makes it difficult to access nuts/bolts and attach the table or other accessories. Thought there could have been more thought put into that part.

How exactly did you mount the rotopax over the table? Thank you

For anyone wondering the Detours one actually does have a predrilled bracket behind the tire for attaching rotopax. Haven't tested the limits as to what you can fit on it in terms of size since I have mine mounted elsewhere already(could probably get a 4gal to fit if you dont have a ladder), but it's there. It also has an additional relocated 2in receiver you can attach a hitch mount bike rack. The tire mount is also removable/modular, but if you want to carry something else instead, you'd have to make the new mount yourself. You got me on the table and hi lift mount though. I ended up just DIYing my own hi lift mount with a $55 Jeep mount off Amazon.

But yeah, if you're not into DIY and just want a carrier with readily available accessories, the ultraswing is probably the way to go. Can't go wrong with either!

I think that works with Prinsu rack only right now, did a quick search and it's called a side load access panel. Pretty cool.

Does anyone have a pic you can post with the UltraSwing installed without the tire mounted ?

Preferably with nothing mounted ( table or Rotopax ) I’m trying to see if just using it for a swing out for a 1up USA bike rack my plate and camera might be useable without relocating.

I still don’t get why anyone would run one of these. Isn’t the whole point of moving the spare out from under to increase departure angles? I’d be willing to bet that this thing makes it even worse than stock.

Not sure I would need for the 4R but see a great application for my pickup truck. 37" tire won't fit in stock location so it takes up half the bed. Then with the RTT on I can't fit a bike and still carry all the gear. This would let me put the spare off the back and carry a bike too.

Looks cool, provides mounting accessories in addition to the spare tire. I love mine and have not regrets. If I think departure angle is an issue, I would simply remove it and toss it in the hatch area.
