before i have my sport rims on my runner i had the factory steelies... then i coated them with flat black spray paint...i loved the look. for some reason black goes well with that color... I'm actually debating whether too coat my sport rims black i know i seen some 4th gens on this forum with blacked out sport rims... so

as for the monsters.. I've seen a couple of nice blacked out 3rd tundras with monsters and rockstars.. never a 3rd gen runner but hey give a shot. make sure to post some pics if u decide to buy

A few thoughts...
-Tires for 18" wheels are more expensive
-The smaller the wheel, the better off road. There's more sidewall for the tire to mold around rocks and give better traction and less chance of losing a bead and having a blowout.
-If you plan on off roading it, you will end up scratching the crap out of those big 'ol 18s.
-If you're doing it for looks, go for it!

yeah i was debating on doing that at first but alot of people on here do that, i would like to do something original and different. and dude you should go for it, i think the sport rims in black would look good.

yeah i know its going to be more expensive, and i won't have as much tire but man i live in arkansas. we don't have any hardcore trails like socal or colorado. i think i'm just gonna do alot of mudding and not as much rock climbing if that makes sense. so compared to the hardcore trail riding yall do it'll be more for looks, brian2sun. would i need new gears if i got 18's and 265/70 or 265/75 though?

265/70s and 265/75s are sizes specifically for 16" rims (31" and 32" respectively). You'll have to find out what a 32" would be for an 18 - I would guess like a 265/65/18 or something.

aight, thanks man for your input. i look forward to having the beast-looking ride such as yours and several others on here. what other rims would you suggest that are 16 or 17s?

yeah... maybe near in the future.. gotta do some research first or find someone that can do it professionally .... but as for a different color.. I've came across this dark purple 3rd gen that had factory steelies coated bronze.. the look was different... i personally thought it was sick but then again thats my .02 cents..

keep us update

Thanks! I just went with some Cragar Soft 8 16x7s because they were cheap and they have that classic look that will never die.

aight well you keep me updated as well on your wheels. and wow like a street runner? i dunno bout that guess i'd have to see it.

No problem. aight, well i wanna do something wheel wise that i haven't seen anybody do, and i'll be the first do the setup so i'm just gonna look real hard.

btw brian, i'm sure you know this, do you HAVE to have 4.5 backspacing on your wheel or they won't work, period?

4.5" BS is stock. I went with 4" BS on my Cragars so they would push my skinny 255s out to where my old 285s were with stock rims (Less BS'ing = more pushed out). I would not get anything more than 4.5 or anything less than 3-3.5".

aight so any 18 inch kmc xd rim wouldn't work, considering they're 5 bs, unless i get 20s and there's no way i'm getting 20s. theres no tire and terrrrible mileage. that's why i gotta 4runner, because i had a 99 tahoe with 20s and i got 13.8. im liking 21.6 way better no question.

I have 20's and it doesnt kill my mileage. I also did a 3" toytec lift on mine to help clear my tires. If your gonna do a bigger wheel you've got to have a bigger tire to fill the fender well so it doesn't look funny

yeah man, i had in mind a toytec spacer lift in the front and 890s in the back, how big are your tires and what kinda mileage do you get?

99nwa4r: i was debating on getting the monsters at one point but wasnt sure how they would look and well i ended up seeing a 4runner with them and it looked funny to my personally bc it looked kinda outta place like it didnt belong. I think they look great on bigger suvs or trucks but the design just doesnt fit the 4runner well.

moto: hey do u have any pis of ur 4runner with the 20s besides ur avatar?

yeah i saw on cardomain and was like ehhh. i'm feeling the 17" xd addicts. do you like those sky dive dude? and those won't weigh near as much as the 18" monsters or rockstars. trying to keep the mpgs up.

im on the fence... like i think they look ok but nothing too great about them. I do think they wouldnt look too bad on the 4runner tho.
