Rim Damage From Changing Tires!

Anyone else have these "gouges" in their rims from changing their tires? Yes, they are gouges. I am just wondering if it is the nature of the beast.

Did you do that yourself? If not, I'd be suing. Aren't those your brand new TE rims, too?

Yes, so far I have been told by the store manager that it is just the nature of the beast (no I didn't do it myself). That is why I am asking. Here are two more clearer pictures.

Thats a tough call, but Id say no, its not the nature of the beast. Id ask the manager If you had a brought in a Ferrari and got new tires would this damage be OK?? Would he consider it acceptable damage on a Ferrari?? He should treat your car, and everyone's car like it is a Ferrari.

I honestly believe shops treat cars differently, I guess I feel this way when I watch work being done on mine. Yes its 10 years old with 200k but that doesn't mean you can treat my car like its a pile of sh!t ya know.

Not normal. A few scratches (small tiny ones) at the outer edge maybe where you weights were, but NOT LIKE THOSE!! Wow...i would be piss!

if it's the nature of the beast, why aren't all rims scratched when they are on a new car? or do they make the tires on the rims to avoid scratches? it's BS man and I would at the very least get my money back for the shit job they did.

I would NOT settle for anything less than new rims...period. I would bypass the manager and go for the owner and make your intent clear form the beginning. They did not look like that when they came in there, so you will not accept them back in that condidtion...document EVERYTHING!!

That's pretty sad work. I have never had that happen and that is not the norm.

That's not the norm. When I had my 2004 SE I ran the same rims with both my summer and winter tires in order to keep my TPMS. During the time I had the SE my summer tires and winters tires were swapped by my Toyota dealer a total of 6 times combined and they never once scratched a single rim in all of those changes. If my dealer, who doesn't claim to specialize in tires etc, can do that there is no excuse for what a tire shop did to your rims. That was just sloppy work.

As has already been said, that is just a result of carelessness. Any reputable shop should have insurance to cover employee screw-ups such as that. I'd go back and tell them they need to make things right.

I had the same quality of work done to my non-toyota sedan last year while getting a plug, and after serious complaining to the shop owner I received full reimbursement for the cost of refinishing the wheel.

I've since resorted to getting it in writing that they will not mar the wheel finish in any way before allowing tire shops to touch the car. It's a shame that anyone would seriously consider it a days work to cosmetically destroy a wheel, but it's reality.

WOW, a new rim from the dealer costs $479.80. Does anyone know the backspacing for the stock rims on the TE? The dealer didn't know.
