Rim stains and fine scratch removal?

I have a 2007 4Runner and my rims have these milky looking stains running across them like the product I used to make my tires shine ran off onto the rim and stained them. I've used several products that remove brake dust and such and nothing has worked to this point. Could it be the clear coat deteriorating?

Okay, so I was trying to figure out how I could remove the stain and I decided, like the moron I am, to use a green scratch pad to see if it would work to remove the stain. Now, I have a rim that has a hazy appearance due to the fine scratches all over it.

So, I've read the certain cleaner/wax products could help remove that milky stain appearance, but is there any way to maybe buff out the fine scratches on my rim? If anybody has any additional info on the stains, I'd appreciate that as well.

You could try a polishing compound, one with very fine abrasives to try and remove the haze.

wheels have a clear coat on them just like your paint does. Hard water spots and raildust can be removed by clay bar, fine polishes or by fine wet sanding. Attempt wet sanding ONLY IF you know what you are doing. Sounds like your scotch brite use caused you to scratch the metal under the clear. If you wanna project, you can sand the entire wheel down and paint it, different color perhaps? good luck..

Try a foam ball that attaches to a drill. Use scratch-x as a compound, it will provide enough cutting without being too abrasive. Follow up with a liquid wax applied with the ball (after it has been cleaned of the scratch-x)

Otherwise, the wheel may need to be re-cleared.
