Rim/tire fit

I have stock rims 265/70/16
Will running 265/75/16 work? They are Taco rims/tires.

A post popped up at the bottom about this so looks like I’m good to go with the 265/75/16.

Yet I need a 265/70/16 for a spare. Who’s got one they want to release into the wild?

Can't help you sorry, I have to replace the spare tires and rims on our vehicles due to age and rust. If you get a new spare I've heard that a 265/75r16 size fits under the vehicle just fine but i haven't confirmed this

Hey Teri -

To your original question... whether tires will fit on rims...

#1 = diameter. 16" = check.
#2 = rim width. check tire specifications for your tire of choice whether it will fit on your rim width. tires will provide a range of rim widths they will fit.

Generally, putting a 265/75/16 on a 16 rim originally built for a 265/70/16 is not a problem at all, but still worth a check. I'd bet my paycheck you are fine with that.

On your next question...

I have a spare under my truck I'm about to let go. I'm pretty certain it's 265/70/16 never used, on an original steel spare rim that's tucked under the ass of the truck. I'm not sure my next time to Chicago, I might be going to O'hare airport in about a month, but I bet we could find a ride for it to get to you from La Crosse, WI. It's not too far. I usually barter in beer. But I would need to make sure it's the size you want. PM if interested.

Edited to add: Just confirmed it is 265/70/16. Almost all original tread, not sure of age, but no cracks and it still holds all pressure. Goodyear RT/S.

Being in the salt belt also, I ended up putting a factory aluminum rim/spare on the hanger as opposed to a steely spare that just gets all rusted up. But of course I give the whole undercarriage full rust preventative treatment every year for the rest of it. Could score a factory aluminum rim/tire pretty cheap at a scrap yard.

what's your routine? what does MA use on the roads? how are the results of your battle? rust drives me bananas. i brought my truck back from CA a few years ago and i've put it in the garage in the winters while they salt the roads.

I don't know if your spare is in much better shape than mine sadly.
I'm in Chicago burbs so salt is the key to their success which totally hoses the undercarriage.

MA uses standard salt. I'm all over New England, CT uses some other brine spray stuff, not sure exactly what it is. Yeah I hate rust, but I fight out.
Theres a lot write ups on rust prevention on this forum. Main thing is hit it hard every year, if you're diligent, you'll do ok. Whole undercarriage, inside frame, inside rockers thru drain holes, inside doors thru drain holes, inside hatch thru drain holes, inside hood lip thru drain holes, inside fenders.
A lot on here use Fluid Film or POR-15, some are old school WD-40 and used motor oil. It will develop a "protective skin". Pick your weapon, depending on how you do it, they all work. Just don't wash your undercarriage thru car wash you'll wash off coatings with high pressure soap and water. I'm old school method and my 20 yr old rig is holding up very well, nice solid and black underneath.

I have got to get the underbelly scraped then coat it.
Gonna be a ***** of a job. I see stuff I want to change out too.
If my mechanic doesn’t start going along with my ideas , I’ll be looking for another one.

However... I think I’m going to go pick up these 265/75/16 Tacoma rims/tires. At least look at them. Good as backup for winter maybe.

Spare wheel

Hey about a spare tire..theirs a junkyard in joliet called ashleys u pull it and they have a '96 and a '99 the '99 has 16" wheels wrapped with hankook dynapro ATM's their 265/70r16 I believe all 4 are still there! Take your pick.

Picked them up and they are pretty nice rims. The tires are ok for summer.
Now, just like a girl, my Runner has different shoes to pick from

I have BFG KO2s on my 97 and they are the same size (265/75-16)... No rubbing on a lot of trails in Colorado recently so I'm sure you'll be fine. I did have to trim the front bumper flare since mine is Limited, the KO2 was rubbing when turning.

To the OP, sorry, I just registered and I can't post my own thread, so I am going to piggy back on your thread. I apologize in advance.

I have a 2001 SR5 4Runner
I just lifted it about 2"

I am wanting to put 32" BFG All Terrains on it now....
So how do I go about pairing up the rims and tires for this?
Do I go with 16x8 rims?
If so, what size tire would work on that rim?

I would also like the tires to be a tad wider, because I have fender flares.
So I am thinking 32x12.5??
