Rim/tire help

I've got a limited on order and do not like the larger rims. I would prefer the standard rims with BFG A/T tires.

Does anyone know if the dealer can swap rims at the dealership?

Are there any advantages to the larger rims as far as ride/ road performance?

Anyone do any off roading with the limited 20" rims?

Just tell 'em you won't buy it unless they install the wheels you want. That should be an easy day for them. Offroading with 20s? The Afflac commercial with the goat comes to mind........................Na Na Na

Will changing to SR5 rims with different tires affect the trip computer? If so, can it be recalibrated?

It won't effect the trip meter or speedometer. The overall height of the LTD wheels/tires vs the SR5 is the same overall diamter. The only different is the SR5 has a slightly wider tire, but same height.

If the dealer won't trade them out, then I'm sure you could find someone willing to swap their SR5 rims for your LTD rims. If I were close enough to you I would trade you myself. There are always people looking to swap out for the 20" rims.

Are you saying a 245/60/R20 which comes with the limited, is the same "height" or diameter as the stock OEM 265/70/R17 which comes with the SR5 and Trail? Confusing......

Yes, that is correct. And it can be confusing.

The diameter of the wheel is different, but the overall height is the same: 31.6"

On a tire marking, the first number (ex: 265/__/__) is the section width. 265 is metric and comes to 265mm or 10.43" in tread width.

The second number is the aspect or "sidewall height" ratio. It is a ratio, not a constant. Just because the second number may be the same on two different tires, it depends on the first number in the marking as well to determine the overall tire diameter.

If you calculate it out you have as follows:

[(Section Width x Aspect Ratio)x 2 + (Wheel Diamter in inches x 25.4 cm)] / 25.4 = overall diameter in inches.

Exaple of the SR5/Trail:
(265 x .70) x 2 = 371 mm
371 mm + (17" x 25.4 mm) = 802.8 mm
802.8/25.4 = 31.6"

Do the same for the LTD 20" wheel and you get:
(245 x .60) x 2 = 294 mm
294 mm + (20" x 25.4 cm) = 802 mm
802/25.4 = 31.57"

I hope this cleared a bit up for everyone as it can be confusing to explain as well.
