Ringing sound underneath 06

I have an 06 v8 sr5.

Since I bought it 2 years ago there has been a ringing sound from outside and underneath the vehicle.

It was faint at first and occurred only during an uphill load. I noticed it at around 25 mph @ ~1100rpms and now it happens on level streets as well and is getting louder.

Toyota Service boy is clueless as usual and just says, "there's a lot of moving parts under there."

Any ideas? Fixes?

Think I'd check all the rock shields (tighten bolts) and whop them with a rubber hammer to see if they ring. Are running boards tight? I'd use problem as excuse to get a new exhaust system with new rubber hangers. Only other thing I could think of would be the emegenccy brake cable.

Okay, after several months I got the time to visit the Toyota dealer today. The service manager was a bit contentious at first saying if his master mech, that I took for a ride, couldn't hear the ringing then it wasn't there. I had to explain to him that it may take another set of ears to hear the particular frequency. So he went for a ride with me and I replicated the problem.

The MT takes the car back and looks at the air cleaner assm for leaks and something else. After a whopping 30 minutes the SA tells me I'm "all set". They couldn't find the problem but I'm all set.

I spoke w/ the SM again and asked if they really found nothing? He said nothing was found but then asks if I can wait around for a couple of hours so they can dig into it.

4 or so hours later they came back to me and said they checked the pullys, bearings and such. What they said they did was add a conditioner to the belt and the noise was gone. Okay great I have things to do now.

Well I pull out of the dealership and accelerate and guess what....? The ringing is still there.

I understand that it is not a "Hey here I am!" problem but certainly there has to be a solution and a dealership willing to be tenatious enough to find it.

It's frustrating to spend that much time and not have the problem fixed. Any chance that you could take to another shop to have them look at it? Sounds like the service manager isn't particularly helpful there.
