I lost my childhood best friend on Friday, Aug 28th, 2015. I've known him since 7th grade (30 years). He was the one got me back into mountain biking. Saturday morning will not be the same for me.
He passed away while doing what he loved the most. The accident happened at Snow Summit Bike Park, Big Bear.

He's a great guy and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

As for accident...it could be a number of things that happened in that bike park....
 
That is terrible man, I'm sorry and more so I'm sorry for his children :(
I Pray for peace for his soul and his family's comfort.

I donated what little I can spare.

I never realized how dangerous Mountain Biking can be, jeez.

My life never be the same. I never cried so much in my life. I've been riding with him every Saturday morning. Sat will not be the same for me. I broke down couple times today just thinking of him. I suppose to go to ride with him that Friday but my on-call schedule that I couldn't go with him. He went with other friends. I wish I was there with him. I made to the hospital before the coroner took him away. I finally can hug him and kissed him on the head.

As a fellow rider and someone that does go to snow summit from time to time, can you elaborate on the death some? What caused the crash?

I think both parks are owned by the same company now.
I'm recovering from a nasty crash that happened in Mammoth, I felt like the trails should have been marked better.
 
Sorry to hear about your friend. The pain will last a long time. The best advice I can give is to remember the good times you shared and be thankful for them. Try to smile a little and enjoy the memories when they surface. It won't erase all the pain, but they should give you comfort on some level. Maybe not right now, but as the days/weeks pass... it'll get a little easier. Hang in there.
 
Sorry for the loss of your friend. The worst I have ever seen on a trail is a guy break an ankle and a broken collar bone sticking through the skin.

Mountain biking is dangerous. My brother's good friend fell off a mountain roughly 300ft in Arizona outside Flag due to faulty V-brakes. He was in a coma for three days. Worst thing is he lost his sense of smell. But thanks to Bell he is alive. He neurologist told him that he was lucky he wasn't confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Once he got married he never got on a bike again that I know of.

I am married and have kids. It was an unfortunate accident. The accident happened at a very "beginner" area. He has been ridding for more than 25 years. You can see the pictures of the accident here. Our friends and I will have one last ride (for me) after his funeral at his favorite trail.
 
We rode back to the my friend's favorite trail yesterday (Sunday) and place the memorial stone for him. His funeral was last Sat.
