RL's Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Review

I went and checked them out today / priced them out. They are pretty aggressive looking , I like them . I was looking at my exact size 265/70/17 in a P rated . Pretty cool. A little pricey @ $169.00 a pop ( with the 100.00 off sale price for 4 )but once I added in shipping from Tirerack , + mount and balance (locally ) , free rotates , free lifetime balancing , disposal fee that I can get local it pretty much is a wash .

They also sell the LTX AT2 . Those were $226.00 each for a 265/70/17. They did not have the $100 off a set of those.

Sounds right. I was quoted at $900 for four (4) Silent Armors in the P265/65/17 size. This includes "free" allignment, mounting and balancing, valve stems, lifetime rotation and lifetime balancing. I am pretty excited about them. I haven't seen them in person yet like you have, but they sure do look great on the web. I did see the Michelins in person. They are pretty cool, not very aggressive, but more aggressive than you would think. Still, Silent Armors for me!

I was surprised on how aggressive they look . Pretty cool. The race is on.....lol. You going to stay with the 65's correct ? Even the 65's in the above i picture look pretty big. Hope my 70's clear ok.

You're on Pal! Seriously though, I will not be getting them until about November or December of this year. My stock Bridgestones have about 33K on them, so I will give them until winter. I will be sticking with the stock size.

I have about 45,000 miles on the GY SAs now, and am thinking about getting another set sometime next year. I still have a lot of tread but can tell that their traction is not the same in the rain.

These tires have been great! No issues regarding flats, despite driving over countless thorns, sharp rocks, and road debris. Heck, I don't even balance or rotate them.

My gas mileage with them is purely a function of how I drive. When aggressive I get 15.6 mpg with regular and premium. Now that I am focusing on being good I am getting 17.5 mpg, in town, with regular.

The stock size for my V8 4X4 is 265/65, these GY SAs are 265/70, thus the computer indicated mileages is a bit pessimistic (about 6% fewer revolutions/mile than with stock size tires).

My Revos have 47k on them , I could maybe get 1 more short rotation out of them , (maybe ) I wish I knew if they were having any bigger savings incentives coming up . Usually they have big pushes for tires like that in fall , so maybe you'll be in a better position with GY.

I don't think I can stretch that far .

They sure do look great on your truck. From what I hear, they are a perfect balance or ruggedness and on-road mannerisms, and that is exactly what I am looking for. I usually drive like a grandma (my computer says 24.4 mpg), so even if I do take a little bit of a gas mileage loss, I won't be too concerned.

Yea, I feel kind of bad changing out my tires so soon. Come fall/winter when I get the Silent Armors, my Bridgestones will probably have close to 36k on them, which is not a lot. But my gf is going to give me half of the cost of the tires for my birthday in August, so I can't complain! I am very excited about getting them. I will keep and eye out for savings incentives and will let you know if I come across anything. I know Tire Rack has/had some kind of $40 off coupon for them, but I am not getting them from tire rack. I will be having a tire chain place called Tire Discounters put them on.
 
Wow, I am certainly late to the dance...

When I bought my 4R last summer and was initially looking into tire options to replace the OEM Dunlops, Goodyear didn't make the SA in the OEM size (265/65 R17) for my '07 Sport. After considering the Revo's, SA's, going up in size to 70 series, keeping the stock size, etc., etc. I just decided to stick with the stock Dunlops for the time being.

Well, it's a year later and I'm thinking once again about new tires. I still definitely have the tread life to get another couple of years out of the Dunlops, but I would like to do a little more 4-wheel'n and would like the confidence of an AT tire. I would also like a little more traction in the snow, which leads me back to the Goodyear SA.

I hate to beat a dead horse here, but what are the overall thoughts on MPG? I always thought that the perceived loss in MPG with the SA was due in part to increasing the tire size. But now that I know you can get the stock size SA for the Sport, I am curious to find out from people running the stock size if they have noticed a loss in MPG.

I still might decide to go up to the 70 series, but I am still undecided. This decision was certainly not as easy as I had initially anticipated....
 
With any tire the more aggressive you go probably the worst milage you will get ( I would guess ) you milage will drop going to an AT tire from the Donlops.

Size , you will drop some more , the looks will be better (I think) and give you 1/2" more clearance since the tire is 1" taller . Stock size which looks good in the SA will give you the vest bet to hold you milage and you wont need to buy a 5th for a spare. ( They look tough on gasguzzlers truck picture on page 3 . Good perfect comparison for you on looks ).

I have 265/70/17's Revos that have given me good gas milage. I took my stock Donlops off the 1st day and got 250.00m for all 5 from the tires dealer , and they applied that to the cost of my Revo's so the deal was good IMO.

Its all a crap shoot. :D
 
Cool, Falls. Yeah, I'm leaning towards the GY SA's in a 70 series. I probably won't do anything until September/October. It sounds like you are leaning towards the SA's yourself, so be sure to post some reviews of what you think, especially compared to your Revo's.

Everyone's reviews on this board have been very helpful. But the fact that you will (or might) be going straight from Revo's to SA's makes you a pretty good candidate for a review of the SA's, especially since you live in a snowy climate. Although, I probably will have pulled the trigger by the time the snow starts to fly this year.

Also, your 4R looks pretty similar to mine so be sure to post pics! :D
 
Running SA's without a Lift

I'm pretty well convinced that the Wrangler SA's are the upgrade I need for the 4Runner I just bought.

Has anyone run the SA's in 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 without a lift? Have you had any rubbing issues?

By the way, Goodyear is offering a $40 rebate on a set of 4 if purchased by August 23.
