RMS/Power question

my head unit puts out 27 RMS x 4.

If I get CDTs which run at 100 RMs and some mb quarts in the rear that run at 35 rms, would the head unit be able to power it even though it runs no where near 100 RMS? I know I will be under powering it, but won't it be better than my current factory speakers?

I'm just asking because I will have the money to upgrade my sepaekrs soon but I won't have the money to buy an amp just yet and I will connect them to the head unit temporarily until I get an amp.

your head unit will power your speakers, but your looking at a huge difference at power output, which in turn will effect the quality of sound and audibility.

Even if you were to get an amp, its really hard with your current configuration. Personally I would recommend gettting a matching set of speakers for the fronts and rears of your 4Runner. That way, when you get an amp, it will be alot easier to shop for one because all the power ratings will be the same and you can either go with a 2x (F & R) or 4x (FR FL, RR, RL) output amplifier.

However, I know that there will be a lot of problems that I will run into. Such as if I upgrade the speakers first, and then later I decide that I can't possibly afford that amp, and I have to go with something cheaper, there will be problems.

So what I might do is get an amp first or get it all in one bang!

that is one pricy amp. have you ever thought of going with a single amp for your subwoofer, and another amp, either 2 channel of 4 channel, for your speakers. It might be cheaper to go with that route. As well it will offer you more options for your setup given any time frame.

Also, with what you are considering, I would get it all at once. There is no point in having an amp and no speakers to power it. As well, the install would be WAYYYYY easier.

Yes I definately have considered that. Right now I'm looking at some nice 4 channels to power my speakers, I cna get a good monoblock amp for like $125-$150. Got any suggestions? Theres this one JL Audio but its only 45 RMS x 4 at 4 Ohm and thats a little too smal lfor me.

the mismatched speakers really shouldn't be a problem in my opinion, although i myself would try to get them a little closer. if you change your amp plans you can always use a regular 4 cannel amp and use the gain controls to turn down the power to the rear. i also like the two amp setup better too because it offers more flexability down the line.

that is alot of amp! for the same money,or maybe just a little more, i would try to get a 4channel amp and two subs. i would run the highs off the head unit untill i got that mondo sub amp that everybody wants.
