Road and sand tire's??

I would like to ask the opinion of the 4Runner owner's who do alot of saltwater fishing what their opinion is of what would be a good, durable street/sand tire?

never had any problems my BFG TA/KO's on the beach near North Padre, etc. And they last forever and do well on the road.

Are those stock option's or aftermarket? The 4Runner I'm buying has new tire's but I know they are only the stock recommended tire, how do the stock '02 4x4 tire's fair in the sand???

They are after market tires. Seems like they are pretty popular around the forum. I have no idea what other tires do, I can only speak for the BFG's.

I really don't know anything about tires, but from what I have learned on here and the Jeep forums, it seems like for sand you want something as wide as possible, and nothing aggressive. you want to be able to "float" on top of the sand and aggressive tires, and narrow tires would help you to dig in. The 4runner comes with decently wide tires (wider than my wrangler's stock tires) and they are not aggressive, so I would think they would perform pretty well. If they aren't working for you, try airing them down before you give up on them. Remember on sand you need to keep consistent throttle, don't use the gas more than you need to, pretend you are trying to save gas.

When I was a little squirt my grandfather had a Jeep he would take fishing and over the sand dune's and we would air down the tires to allmost pancake like. Also the tires he would pick were a low tread hiway tire he would say you don't want to dig in the sand you just want to go slow over it.

Thank's for the replie's everyone I appreciate your time and input. I will just say I'm aware of the "wider is better" and "low tire pressure" advantage's. I guess it really come's down to a fine line between having both but they will not be ideal for either! Make sense???

Two good choices: BFG AT KO and Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. These two tires are some of the toughest all-terrain tire that you can buy. Other good choices: Bridgestones Dueler AT REVO, Yokohama Geolander HT-S, Michelin LTX M/S, Michelin LTX AT, etc..

If all you are seeing is sand and mild terrain then avoid an expensive AT tire that lacks pavemnt manners and stick to a tire more suited for your driving. Geolandar HT-S or Revos are a solid choice and both have mileage warrantys.

I guess yall could have used this tidbit of info sorry! I will only be seeing the sand once MAYBE twice a month so 95% of my driving with be to and from work aka on the street. I would think I could go for a semi-more agressive tread and size than the stock one and still be safe, opinion's please?
