Road tires for 2004 Limited

Hi,

I need tires for my 2004 Limited. I have Bridgestone Duelers on now. I've been looking but there are so many choices I'd like to get some opinions from people with experience. Driving is 100% on road paved and some dirt but not enough to make a difference. I'm in New England so snow is an issue. I'm interested in handling, minmizing road noise and tire life. For price I'd like to stay $600 - $700 for the set. Any suggestions?

I love my firestone destination at's. I considered the destination le, but the slightly aggressive look and driving in snow made me chose the at. I rarely drive on anything more than a dirt road, but feel I could handle moderate mud if i had to. They look great, handle great, and are very quiet

I got them installed with alignment for like 730 after a $70 rebate, not at a firestone dealer

600-700 is not much and will limit your quality quite a bit. IMO the Michelin LTXM/S2 are the best and longest lastimg tires for your kind of use. In tires you really do get what you pay for.

Agreed; my father in law just put these on his truck and could not be happier.

Long tread life warranty too if I remember correctly.

I can second the Michelin LTX's I had a few set on my dodge ram and they were pretty awesome street tire.

+1 for the M/S2. You will spend about $1000 but you can't get a better tire. I have personally seen the tires go for 80000 miles and the only reason for replacement was ozone cracking. For a little more money than you want to spend you will get a tire that lasts at least twice as long

I agree. Hands down those are the best tires for what you are looking for!

Michelin LTX M/S2s are considered by many to be the premier All Season Highway tire but they'll cost you a cool grand easy.

For a similarly rated, and purposed, tire check out the Continental CrossContact LX20 Eco for a lot less money than the Michelins. I found some for around $160-$170 which is probably about as low as you'll find a decent tire.

Im probably going with Cooper Discoverer AT3s but I want more of an AT tire.

I'd say stay away from Michelins. I've had years of experience with them and hate them! They are way over priced at $210-$230 each, more than all the tires on the pickup cost including the spare! The tread may look thick and chunky but the spaces in between are thin and easily punctured by any little thing. The ones on my Toyota pickup had so many punctures I had to put tubes in 2 of them after they had so many plugs they wouldn't hold air any longer. On my 4runner I found what looked like a small staple in one and when I pulled it out it went "Psssssst" and went flat. I had to take it back to Discount tire and have it replaced.
They have a smooth and pretty quiet ride but have problems with any ridges or grooves in the road and will make the steering pull to the left or right if the road surface isn't completely smooth.

I've had Michelin LTX A/Ts on my surfs. M/S2 on my current 05 Limited. They didn't cost me a grand, more like 650 for all 4. My friend is a used car dealer and gets good rates. I love them, I won't get another brand tire. Lots of grip, very quiet on the highway, said to be long lasting. I believe it. Anyway, on a related note, my Civic's Bridgestone Turanza Serentys are dying (80K on them). I'll be getting Michelin Primacy MXVs next. Too bad to hear on a very few having bad luck with Michelins.

I got BFG Long Trail T/A's at BJ's wholesale in Leominster, and a set out here in Western Mass for both of my 4Runners, and the bill was almost $600, installed.

The set on my 2003 V8 SE has been on since 2007 and still has PLENTY of rubber on them!

I got my MS2's for $810 shipped on discount tire direct. Put 'em on a few weeks ago, and love 'em. Can't wait until the winter to really try 'em out.

Relax, and let him pick what he wants from suggestions here. Some tires are more aggressive than other, some will last longer but give you poor grip in snow or dirt and then there's original equiptment Dunlops that will look good on spec sheet and will hydroplane in first major rain. Wtf was I thinking? Trying to offer other options. If he fully made up his mind then he wouldn't ask for opinion here, would he?

BFG Rugged Terrain T/A

I just bought the BFG Rugged Terrain T/A's.
Granted most of my driving will be highway however there are some that would argue that NJ Roadways are technically "Off Road".

So far after a couple hundred miles im very happy with my purchase.
Aggressive looks with well mannered road handling. Also, not as noisy as I would have expected due to the tread pattern. I'd say that they are not any louder than the old Dunlops.
I also happen to like the Raised White Letters. Adds to the sporty nature of these tires.

I've had my Dynapro ATMs on for almost a year now and I really like the way they handle. Granted we didn't get a lot of snow this past winter, but we did get a few days where it was over a foot. That was enough for me to try them out and I must say they did fantastic!
They are a bit louder than the stock tires that were on there before, but I think that's expected with a slightly more aggressive tire.
I've also driven a lot of highway miles and it's handled very well.

I had great luck with Yokohama Geolander H/T-S's. These were a fantastic highway tire for me. I don't hesitate to recommend these.
