2010 TE, no KDSS, no nav.
Alright first of all, i love the ride and its the best vehicle purchase ive made. I just finished about a 3K roadtrip and its time to post impressions.
Utility - cant complain, i love the power converter, its easy to load and unload (although ive found the cargo tray to be more of a gimmic than anything else
Comfort - Im 6'5 and 220, so its nice to have something i can stretch out in, and it has a helluva lot more headroom than the lexus i once had. The ride is soft, but ill get into that later. Not a big fan of the creaking noise from the lumbar support. Waterproof seats are fantastic... especially if a bridesmaid pukes in the back.... twice... once on each side.... :ybrick::dammit: However after the indignity of cleaning it, the new-car smell remains! winning...
Driving dynamics. WTF!! Ok, i have a few gripes here. Toyota, WAKE UP! if you market a trail edition vehicle with crawl control, etc, at least put some damn tires on that are up to the task! If the FJ gets wranglers from the factory why can't we?
Suspension: big fail here as well IMO, the nosedive on even the lightest of braking is reminiscent of the '90 country squire station wagon my dad was in love with.
Braking: If in the event you need to apply sudden braking the car gets all out of shape. The nose dive takes the weight off the rear tires causing the back to want to swap ends, and brake over-ride takes over and the result is you stop when the car wants you to, there is a feeling of hopelessness when this occurrs. It happened twice with me and the brake assist took way to long to stop the vehicle.
On windy days i do get some highway shake, and its especially noticable when behind a large truck. I have a feeling if i went the KDSS route this would not be an issue.
Gas mileage over the 3K was 22.1mpg with the tires at 45psi. Not bad at all for such a large vehicle with the aerodynamic properties of a cinder block.
In summary. The suspension/wheel/tire setup is sub-par for such a great vehicle. They will be my next upgrades, but that's what these cars are for anyway.
