Road Trip in a 94

I figured I would show some pictures we took yesterday on our trip north through a little town (damn near a ghost town) called Shaniko in central Oregon...the gas station is a complete reproduction of an old Texaco complete with the "MasterCharge" and S&H Greenstamp signs...too cool.

We have alot of fun on road trips, and try to stop someplace different every time we go. Lots of stuff to see if you just take the time to look at the scenery. Last trip was the first time we stayed in a Tee-Pee...kinda cool...In all the places I've been in the world, I'd never stayed in something like it, so we figured...what the hell.

Looks like you should be riding into that town on horseback rather than the 4runner ! After topping up the water did the servo attendant suggest where you could stable your vehicle for the night ?

Though its not nice for the town, its nice for us when the clock stops....its like you are driving back into history. csrobb007 good on you for being brave enough to stay overnight in these small towns. I suppose its all about gaining experiences, good and bad, and you'll never know unless you try it.

We are in Australia, and on a trip we pulled into a small rail town called Lappa Junction for lunch at the pub after swimmimg in a remote gorge.. . 2 houses & a pub we found no one there. No food, beverage or people - only an honesty box out the front and the hotel was basically left as a self guided museum. My kids had a blast browsing, but we all left hungry & thirsty !

And their favourite piece was an old toy - I love this tin truck.

On the return

On the return trip, we stopped at Newberry Cauldera...a dormant volcano outside of Bend Oregon, took a few pics sitting on the rim of the cinder bowl, then went to where the lava flowed around trees to leave what looked like wells when the tree burned / rotted over 6000 years ago.
This all after staying in a Tee-Pee again in Toppenish Washington...we figured it would (and has been) fun rather than 90 bucks to stay in a hotel room, with less ammenities...20 bucks to camp with a fire pit, pool, and marshmallows...it's a no brainer.
