Road Trip Out Midwest

Hey all. My road trip is starting Saturday or Sunday this week from Texas. I was curious if any of you in the NM, CO, UT, AZ, NV and the like areas would want to meet up for drinks or wheeling or whatever. I am going in this with hardly any plans... basically just gonna drive until I find something cool.

If you have any cool suggestions let me know. It can be wheeling spots, cool events that locals know, cool places to see/things to do, or even cool local brews to try.

Have fun! A friend and I did a similar trip in my Miata back in '08. First day, we drove from Knoxville TN to Roswell, NM. Then it was several days through the states you listed making sure to never hit the interstates. We drove through deserts, mining towns, mountains, volcanoes, lava fields, Grand Canyon, snow storms, etc. One of the best trips ever. :thumb: This is just a sampling of over 600 photos... amazing scenery!

I'd recommend going up either/both Pikes Peak (near Colorado Springs) and Mt. Evans (near Evergreen) in Colorado. Tremendous views with amazing roads to get there (with several thousand feet of elevation gain on both in just a few short miles).

How do our trucks do on grades like that?

My 2014 4runner seems to be affected more at high elevation than my 4th gen. I just don't seem to feel the elevation near as much in my 4th gen as other vehicles that I have owned. I had a 2004 Z71 with a 5.3 that was really affected by elevation. Of course, my 2012 F150 ecoboost wasn't really affected at all in high elevation but it was suffering from a list of other (typical Ford) problems.

The 3.4 handled it no problem.

The Miata wasn't turbo and had no problem making it to the top and it was fully loaded. I had trouble getting around at the top due to the thin air but the Miata was fine.:thumb:

I am more worried about my fat ass breathing up there with that thin air. I am used to chewing my air as I breathe in Texas

I grew up in IA. That's the MidWest. All the States that you listed are Awesome, but I clicked on the article to hear some suggestions for IA, IL, WI, MN, MO... :bluejump: Sounds like a FANTASTIC trip!
