Road Trip!

I'm planning a two week road (off-road) trip to Colorado and Utah. I did a trip back in 98 with my Taco and it was fantastic. I used “Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails” and “Guide To Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails”

I plan on going in May. I definitely want to do the “Lion’s Back”!

Colorado in May may not be the best time to go. At many of the places Doodz goes, the snow, even in May, will definitely limit your good times. Just a thought. Perhaps June would be better.

First hand experience outside of Durango in middle of May: Small runnoff under the trail (couldn't see it), icebridge gave way sinking my tires into mud and icepack, all the while, loading snow up under the chassis. I think it froze me in place...solid. Anyway, 4 hours later and much digging, a final prayer, and big pushing from my buddies we came loose. I'll never forget my buddy yelling, "Yeah!! Yeah!!", as it started to move.... then I covered him in heavy mud as I gunned it in reverse.

Thanks for the good advice. Come to think of it, the last time I was there I was very limited to the trails. I was able to go to the top of Pikes Peak. They told me it was the first weekend that year it was opened. Thanks for reminding me, I'll have to plan it later in the year.
