Roady XT, AUX input and installation

I installed RoadyXT XM radio to my 4runner. I used the belkin cup holder and wired the antenna without drilling. I didnt do anything special for the 12v charger yet. You can still see it. I use it with Fm frequency but here in Atlanta its hard to get a clear channel.

Anyway my problem is when i try to use the aux input with my RoadyXT, I keep getting white noise on the background(its like a whistling sound).:bash:

I tried to use my ipod with aux input and it works just fine.

Did anybody have this problem and how did they fix it?

Is there a way to wire the 12v power input without drilling?

Can't help you with the aux input stuff (I have a 2005). I hardwired my antenna in with a fm modulator installed behind the factory deck in the dash. Sounds much better than the FM transmitter built into the unit. It eliminated the static from other FM stations.

Go get a "female" 12v socket from Radio Shack or where ever and tap it into the existing 12v socket or into the switched power wire feeding the radio. I did that and put it in my glove compartment (no drilling). I bought the entire hardwired kit from Crutchfield made for the Roady XT which includes everything. I think it was around $30.

I believe the noise is because Toyota uses a voltage loop to detect if equipment is connected to the AUX input, it disables the AUX input when nothing is connected. Unfortunatly some devices don't like the voltage on their output.

I was given a Roady XT and year subscription for x-mas and had the same problem, cured it with THIS and it sounds great. It's a simple isolation transformer with a slight gain. Would be nicer if they used a right angle output plug.

I plan on doing a custom install, don't like the 12v plug adapter and wires laying on the center console, when I recover from recent back surgury.

Thats a good idea. I did a little research and actually taught about buying StreetGlow Car lighter adapter . It has 87" long cable and has 4 female sockets. That means i can charge my phone at the same time. 87" wire made me think. I can stick it to the 12v socket on the back of the 4Runner. And i can run it to the glove compartment. I have to measure the lenght first. Hope it will work.

Thanks i will try that. When you attach it. Does the male side of the device plug into the AUX input? or into the Audio output of the RoadyXT?
