Roady2 in a 2003 4Runner arm-rest?

I am going thru the selection process to decide what type of XM receiver to choose. After sitting for awhile in side the 4runner, it appears that the Roady2 could fit nicely in the arm rest. I am talking about the little thingy that pops open to extend the arm rest forward. Maybe people use this for 3M stickys and writing? Has anyone that has a Roady2 tried to see if this will fit there. I believe that once in place, the arm-rest thingy could be folded back to its original position to conceal the device. This makes for a very clean installation?

Do you mean the flip/over portion of the center arm rest? I considered that some sort of table. If you could get it wired to that location without crimping when closed, etc... I think it would be a great spot. Out of the way most of the time and hidden from theives...

Yes that is exactly what I am talking about. I do not see a problem with the wires. They can be all run inside the center consol/arm rest. Using rubber grommets, from HomeDepot, where any holes need to be drilled. I think I will made a cardboard model/box to check the clearance when it gets flipped back to it’s original position (closed). Of course I need to purchase a Roady2 which has become an impossible thing; here in New Jersey. Man I want one bad. The price is right!

Sounds like a nice setup. Once you get it finished, please share some pics. As I was driving (about 20 minutes ago), I flipped that lid and saw the screws holding that textured cap on. Looks like that can easily be altered...!

it is funny you mentioned the Roady and that location. I saw a guy here in town and pulled over to talk to him and check out his 4Runner. He had one in that exact location. He actually had cut the plastic and recessed the Roady display in the fold out part. When you would open it, you were looking riht at the display. It was perfect. i wish I had my camera that day. Post some pics if you do it.

I went and took a look at the ROADY2 unit on the Crutchfield site. Looks like a nice piece for a reasonable price, comes with the everything you need to hook it up in the car.

I assume one could 'hot-wire' the thing instead of using the supplied 12V plug... or maybe hide another 12V outlet inside the center console, run all the wires thru the 'tissue holder' in the top of the console.. anyone do something like this?

Yes that’s what I am planning on doing. I hate using cig. adaptors. I would hard-wire it since it’s so simple. I was going to tap off the 12volt cig. adaptor, from underneath it and add an inline fuse. My problem now is that I have a plan and can implement it! I can not find the Roady2’s anywhere. I have called every BB, CircuitCity, & Walmart within a 30 miles radius; with no avail.

You could order it online at the XMFAN store. I've bought several things from them, antennas, etc. I have the original Roady, don't know where I"m going to put it in the Runner, but you got a good idea. I don't use that 'table' much, but it does hold fries rather well. I was actually looking at using the flip open door under the radio (behind the drink holders) as a place for my Roady, just haven't figure it out yet. Also found a PIE or BlitzSafe adapter to work with my radio so I've got to get that first.

xmFANclub does not have any, they are back-ordered. Yea I need a PIE adaptor as well. Crutchfield offers them for $ 15 pn# Alpine KCA-121B; but has none in stock. I will check Circuit-City next for the cable. But what about the connections??? This PIE cable has two female RCA plugs and the Roady2 has a 3.5mm diameter ministero jack. I am not sure if the two are the same, but if not then another adaptor may be necessary?

In my Dodge I put in a 3.5mm stereo plug to RCA cable. Actually, I installed a jack under the dash so I could play my MiniDisc (pre-XM ) and now I have a cable that runs under my carpet to the XM Roady. I'll have to post some pics tomorrow.

So I'm a newbie to this forum as well as my 4runner. I just picked it up last night and I am already missing the XM I had in my '99 4Runner

I have been debating between the XM Comander and the Roady2. I like the fact that I could use the Roady2 with another stereo; however, I would like the interior to stay as uncluttered as possible. With this in mind, does anyone have any pictures of any XM external device installed??? Also, will I just need the extra PIE adaptor?? Any other recommendations??? Thanks!!!
