Rock Krawling with a GM Envoy

That quote-able quote was spoken by Ruffian (aka Melinda) in her truck this past Saturday

We were on a day trip with a local 4x club.

The Envoy made the full trip, but with some damage. 1 tire damaged (needing replacement) and the plastic front end had moved somewhat, I know it dragged its belly on the ground a few times too.

Other fatalities:

Over heated Toyota Landcruiser (old 75 odd shorty) with a GM 400cid V8

Over heated Short Jeep

Battery exploded in a Short Jeep

Electrical system failure on another Short Jeep

Girlfreind failure in another Short open top Jeep (to be fair it was very very dusty)

I think we started with 30 or 31 trucks and ended with I think 27

The trail was dirt roads, highway, snow, mud, rocks, couple of creeks (but we crossed on bridges) and we went thru the Californian gold rush town of Aleghaney

It would be great to get a bunch of us from here to go on this route. And like what was brought up during this run, we can bring loppers and do some gardening to limit the rest of you getting scratches.
Oh and if you're more hard core, this is what the trail does to stock tires. So it is a safe for a 4x4 SUV, but by no means is it all mountian shelf roads and easy going. This was from said GMC Envoy. By the way MagnumFan, "Girlfriend failure" cracked me up. I'm not sure she would of liked the rest of the trail anyway!

That Cross Terrain got ATE UP! Just out of curiostiy, how did the vehicle with thos CT's fare? I have brand new ones, and, well I'd like to do a little offroading, nothing too serious, but it'd be nice to have confidence in my tires.

That tire was on the GMC Envoy MagnumFan mentioned. The vehicle itself did ok until we hit the rough stuff. The "Rock Crawling" comment came from me when the trail leader asked where I was. Being a follower of the trail code, I was having to wait for the Envoy to catch up with me. The driver of the Envoy was going like 3 mph and bottoming out consistantly enough that she was trying to limit any body damage. Ruffian, at her stock height with the Nitto's on did excellent. No issues what so ever. With MagnumFan's encouragment, I used the slip diff. and that solved the previous weekends issue of tire slip with the traction control warning going off. The other T4R's on this run had no issues as well. So I'd say any stock T4R with tires that have enough grip/rubber on them will do just fine. One of these upcoming Sundays, maybe when people have Monday off, we should do this run. But like this past weekend, we may have to deal with other groups on the trail and you'd better be a good enough driver to back up on a narrow shelf trail! Of course if we have enough people, someone can be the spotter like what MagnumFan did to help those Range Rovers!! Good on ya Mate!!
