Rocking/moving driver's seat?

Is this the exception or the rule for the 03/04 truck? I've seen a few complaints about it, and I know all about that since my current car has it, and this is the main reason I'm trading it in. It's been to the dealership 4 times and I've come to the conclusion that it's a flaw in Infiniti's G35s since just about all G owners are complaining about it.

With my new 4Runner due in 3 or 4 weeks, I just wanted to know whether or not to expect it.

Whether any of you 4Runner owners have it or not, I'd sure like to know.

Actually when you go and expect everything, you will always find a flaw as no vehicle is perfect. When you go in with no expectations, you appreciate what you have in front of you and enjoy every moment. Life is too short to B*tch and moan about everything

Yes, my 04 does it very bad. I just got it last week, I dont want to take it in yet for them to have it for a couple of days.

My 04 sport has never done it, but before I bought it I borrowed a 03 sport from the dealer for a few days and it did it pretty bad. Almost felt like the seat never clicked into place right, and would move every time I braked. I just figured they fixed it on the 04's since my new one hasn't had that problem. Good luck!

Hi!

My 4Runner is a 2003. Built 12/02, v6, 4X4, Dorado Gold, pretty well loaded. My drivers seat rails rock. Be prepaired to go to battle on it.

Now, the early production 03's Limited, power seats have a squeek and shake. There is an official fix from Toyota on that. The lesser SR5's & Sport, apparently many dealers know have a problem, but some will address it and some say it's the "Seat" and it's supposed to do that.

With all the different functions of the manual seats, there are may areas that give and take. So, if you prep the seat to your liking, and don't tighten all the options to their tightest, the seat will wiggle.

............................BUT .......................... While you'll be able to shake the hell out of the seat, IT IS NOT A RAIL issue. That one, you'll literally feel the seat lift and click at breaking and acceleration. TWO different things.

You are correct, it is not the rails that are the problem. I took my seat apart the other day to find the culprit. They use a wheel type mechanism to raise and lower the end of the seat, the wheel is metal with notches in it. The notches align with another part, it is here where there is play. I have an appointment tommorow morning with my dealer. I cant wait to see what they have to say.

Well, I took my car in yesterday. The tech and I drove it. He acknowledged that it was moving. To I make a long story short: He said he called Toyota and they told him it was normal. He also said pulled another one from the lot, it was worse than mine. The service writer said if gets worse to let him know. I went off on him with that comment.I told him not only is it getting worse, but my wife can be siiting in the pass seat with the radio on and she can hear my seating moving. I told him it was a safety issue and I would contact Toyota about it. He said he would have his manager call Toyota and would call me back on Monday. I forbid to allow them to get away with this one. It is clearly a design fault. Here is what kills me. Toyota of course does not make these seats, more than likely Johnson Controls does. They need to go the manufacture and tell them to correct these things.

Sooo sorry that your going through the same thing as I. While a lot of the people on this site are looking at life through the ever famous rose tint glasses, and love their Toyotas, the need to pay attention to the "Clicking and movment" of their seats.

I have the president's name and number. I have written to him, and I'd love to have you do the same. I just do not want these freaks to attack us for having below then standard Toyota products.

Your in for quite a battle. But, stick it out! While I'm, still waiting for my new rails, they are coming.

Well, the Toyota rep looked at my seat today. He did confirm that that the tolerance in the seat adjuster is too much. However he will not fix it, said that he will turn the info over to Toyota and go from there. I have a alot of history with how Toyota works and I feel pretty confident there will be a TSB pretty soon to fix this problem. They just seem to take there time. I will be contacting Toyota tommorow to at least file a complaint. The more people file concerns the better.

It's VERY disappointing that Toyota did not fix this problem on the 2004. It seems like Toyota, along with Honda, is letting quality go down hill. Are they trying to get to GM's level ?

I called Toyota customer service today about my seat. He was very nice and seemed concerned. I told him my scenario: seat rocks, knocks, moves when I stop, start, turn etc, Toyota rep said that it was a problem but could not fix it because there basically is no fix, so they say. Why do some do it and some dont then?
He is sending me the paper work for me to file for arbitration to have it fixed. I told yall I will not let Toyota get by with this one. I will keep yall posted.

I recieved a call from the service manager today. He said the field rep wanted to take a second look at my seat tommorow. I hope they decide to fix it somehow. I am wondering if I got there attention by telling them I am going to arbitration to get my seat fixed. I'll let yall know what happens.

they fixed mine, but I haven't adjusted the seat height since i got it back, it used to click badly whenever I was accelerating, braking, getting in, out, moving around. . .annoying, and not very safe imo, BUT they replaced the rails and the recliner mechanism, and everything so far, after 3 or 4 months, is ok. . .I wish there was an official TSB on it. . .

Well, I dropped my truck off to them yesterday morning as they asked me too. I go to pick it up and ask them what they did to it. He told me that the field rep wanted to take some more measurements of the seat!!!! I asked him why is my truck being the educational guinea pig? After I left, I got so mad after doing some thinking. Why cant they play around with the 4runner they showed me off the lot that has the same problem? I am still waiting for the paper work from toyota on the arbitration stuff.The service manager told me it would be at least 6 monthes till a fix would come out.
