Rocky Road Supersliders

Haha, so I don't have any pics to show yet, but they have my ride for the week and should be done by Thursday. It has taken a lot longer than I thought to get my car in their shop, but here we are.

They offered traditional black powdercoat or red (paint maybe? not sure if you can powdercoat red). I'm sticking with black (hard to tell if I like red without seeing it in person), but suggested they make a red pair just for marketing. See red: http://www.rocky-road.com/media/titanfront.jpg

They may also proto a roof rack and diff guard. And I guess I get to keep all the proto's, so :guitar3:.

A few hundred lbs wouldn't make a difference. Either way they should be made to the rigs loaded weight, or they aren't sufficient to be sliders, just steps.

That is the reason for getting sliders from a quality company, Shrockworks, stubbs, rocky-road to name a few.

Also, if you get a front bumper, you need to change your springs for the additional weight.

That's my ride! Going to pick it up tomorrow morning, I'll take some close-ups.

One thing I really like about them over Shrockworks (no offense) is the rounded edges on the base bar.



Now I must get a lift. Sorely tempted with the stage 5, though not sure if the front reservoirs will fit without cutting. Hopefully it will look OK in these tires, cause I don't want to get new ones yet.

Yup. quote from Glenn "Toyota tends to use the same rail material for numerous racks across their vehicle range. For example, we're using essentially the same mounting system for all the 4runners, Landcruisers, Sequoias from 2003 and up. Only the roof width changes between the vehicles, but the track system to which our racks mount is all the same. So it should follow that it would be the same for the various 4runner models too."

Ordered the rockers this afternoon when he told me they were finished and ready to roll. Expected turn around time is to ship them in 2 weeks or so from the date they are ordrered.

My only concern is that it appears that the bolts will take all of the weight. I'll need to do some calculations to see what kind of safety factor there is compared to their shear strength.

I like the rack. They used the stock side rails and built a pretty beefy frame to replace the crossbars. Seems very sturdy, especially with the TE side rails, which I think have extra supports compared to a SR5/Limited. Should be everything I need it for. A much more inexpensive solution than a Gobi, though with some sacrifices.

Did I mention that I got to keep all of this stuff for free since I lent them my ride for prototyping? :dancin:

The sliders don't seem to stick out too far, which is great but I am concern that it might be a little difficult to step on them to reach the roof or getting in/out.

What do you think? do you step on them to get in/out?

Ron, if you are looking for sliders that can be used as steps, you might look at what Harper7 has on his, or BFLAN has designed. I think the RRO Supersliders will provide a toe hold, maybe. I like them because they are tucked up close to the body and I won't be depending on them as a step.

If I need to stand on something to reach the roof, I will just open the door.

With the doors closed, it is a toe hold. With the doors open, it is wide enough for a foot, but still is almost as high as the doorline. They are great for getting to the rack.

Good to know. Can you post a picture of where it meets the frame near the KDSS? From the one pic it looks like it's only got the two struts.

3 struts, 2 bolts each. I think Metric 8's, but not certain.

Assuming the 6 bolts are loaded evenly, the slider is carrying the entire weight of the vehicle, and they are grade 5 bolts, then I calculate a safety factor of 1.5. This means they are 1.5 times stronger than they need to be to carry the full weight of the vehicle on one slider. This is neglecting impact forces. Most likely, you would only be putting a little more than half the vehicle's weight ever on them, giving you closer to a SF of 3. Even a little better if they are grade 8's. Should be OK so long as they were not made in China.

Hey Eg..... Those sliders actually look very good!! It looks like the SW ones stick out maybe 1/2 to 1 inch more . I'll take some measurements from the rocker out with pics to compare.

Maybe we can compare them side by side this summer too as I'll be out that way the end of next month! All the pictures you've posted are absolutely breath taking!Nothing like that around here for sure.I have 2 more weeks of work then blowing my whole 5 weeks vacation traveling! woo hoo!:naughty:

I like the look of these better than SW but the SWs stick out just a bit farther and they have an underbrace. These RRS just bolt to the side and not underneath as well with the underbrace.
