Rollbar - can you cut and reweld?

Can you cut and reweld a factory rollbar, or do you lose strength?

I picked one up to install on a 4runner I use in south america, which doesnt have one. Weight is ok, but it is too big to ship unless I cut it into half or thirds sections.

It should be okay, but I'd highly suggest you strengthen it somehow after you weld it together. Unless you cut up the welds and take it apart that way. =)
Given that you (or someone you know) have the skills to weld professionally. (I wouldn't recomend it to amatures, sorry )

this is for a stock truck for work, do not plan to roll it, just want a little safer.

Okay, then you can just cut it in two or three parts and wel 'em together. The stock ones aren't meant for much rollin' anyway...

Probably 'bout the same safety as the 2nd gen w/o rollbars (I've tried)

I'm not sure 'bout the inspection tho'. (if you have that over there)

I would just sleve over the butt weld seams where you cut it at it might look better . did it on my Jimmy when i built a cage 4 it.

any advice on sleeves? Inside vs outside?
I have the vinyl cover, so looks arent an issue.

Hey mate if welded properly the weld will be stronger than the bar it self. Thats is if you were to roll and the bar snapped i can assure you it wouldnt break through the weld.

I sleved the out side on mine , but only because it was exposed if your covering them ,,,,i would just leave it a butt weld .if it were exposed it would look yuk i think unless the welder was as perfect as a machine ,and thats not ez ,,inside a truck .if the weld is in place ya know what i mean?
