Rolled, 97k Miles, Manual, Should I Part Out or Let Inurance Take it?

Insurance adjuster is coming on Friday, I'll let you know what they say. I'm just thinking that 97k miles and manual transmission are pretty rare, I feel like with the right buyer I might make more then insurance will give me.

I don't know I'm young and dumb and really don't know how these things work, so I thought I'd see what the T4R community has to say.

Also thank God for USSA

Well, first thing, delete (or at least revise) this post. Insurance fraud is a big deal, and I don't think you want to get tangled up in that beast. I'm not saying that's what you're doing, just saying, if it resembles something along those lines, you might not want to make it public.

We can't give much advice until insurance gives you a quote.

It's not fraud unless he has liability and said someone hit him (causing the roll over). USAA is a VERY good insurance company, so they would assume you were responsible for the accident if there wasn't someone else involved in the accident. I believe roll-overs are covered under full coverage. ALWAYS get full coverage!

Edit: If you qualify: ALWAYS GO FOR USAA!

I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on this one, I guess I'm just paranoid is all. Sorry to hear about rollover, glad you're ok tho! We obviously need video once the dust has settled.

I'm sure they will give you some time to think about your decision. It's hard for us to help you without knowing how much they are going to payout for totaling your 4Runner...and also what price USAA want to sell it back to you for?? Once you have those two numbers...let us know. Then people will be able to offer up their opinions weather you should settle or buy it back.

Are you looking at rebuilding your rig...or selling it off for parts?

Good luck with your meeting on Friday. Looking forward to see what they offer you...I have USAA also.

Check with Your state's insurance dept. In Texas, insurers are Required to offer any totaled vehicle to the owner for 15% of value of current value, so it can be quite profitable to buy back your own wreck! Luck. :cowboy:

I dunno about specific prices where you're at, but as food for thought, here's what stuff seems to go for around here -

Complete wrecked truck, as much as $2000 if the drivetrain is good.
Complete 5VZE engine, $400-$1000 depending on miles and condition, you'll get more if the buyer can hear it run and do compression tests on it before you pull it.
R150 trans, $200-$400.
Open 4.10 third, $100-$150, $400-$500 for an elocked 3rd.
3rd gen 8" rear, $50-$100 (more if it's an elocker housing).

Those are the parts that are in demand and seem to always sell, other stuff like interior bits and undamaged body parts can sell but you'll likely end up scrapping most of it. Once you've got the good bits off and your wife is tired of it sitting in the driveway, a scrap yard will probably pay $200-$300 for the carcass, less if they have to pick it up. If the frame is straight and clean, consider stripping it down and listing it for sale here, might be somebody in the rustbelt will pay you to stick it on a pallet and ship it to them.

Just wait until you get the figure from USAA, then compare that to what people are asking on comparable trucks in Auto Trader/CL/etc.....if the figure is lower than the advertised trucks, copy and send the ads to your adjuster as "comps". Because these trucks sell for a lot more than book value you will fare better using the comparable vehicle figures. You will most likely need to defend your position with examples of trucks within 100-200 miles of your location.

USAA will treat him right, bet he takes the check.

Probably right.....I actually have USAA and they are amazing, great experiences with them. We had a tornado hit our house and they treated us better than I could have imagined, and both of our totalled vehicles were settled VERY fairly. I had another car accident with an older Honda Accord we owned that another insurance company tried to short-change us on a total loss(their insureds fault), on that one I had to use CL/Auto Trader to get a fair amount from them and it was a struggle.

I believe your young, but I doubt your dumb. You are uninformed. Now your learning.
