Rolling back in gear??

I have a stick shift and park on an incline. I have always left the E-Brake off and just left it in gear when I park. Today I go outside and my truck is half way in the street! I parked again and it started to roll backwards. Anyone has any idea what that could be? It's been running fine and the clutch hasn't slipped at all.. Everything has been normal..

Does the shifter feel firm or a bit loose? Could be some bushings that have worn out or could be the clutch.

BTW, parking tips: When on an incline, ALWAYS turn your wheel (usually to the right) so if your car does pop out of gear or whatever, it doesn't roll far and cause harm/death (imagine if there was a kid that was playing by where your car rolled?).

You said taht you left the E-brake off? As in you didn't use it? This is the first time I ever heard of anyone parking a manual without using the E-brake! Why subject your transmissions to the pressure of holding up the entire car? Anyways, do you remember where the position of the shifter was when you got back to your car? Was it popped out of gear or just the way you left it?

Thats correct. I don't use the E-brake unless I'm on a really steep hill. It was in 1st gear the first time. It didn't pop out of gear, it was still in gear when it was rolling. Not a smooth roll. In increments. Then I tried other gears and had the same problem.

I was under the impression that it wasn't a big deal to park in gear without using the E-break... I can't use it during winter anyway because they freeze "on."

Thanks for the tip P-nut. I've never had this problem before but the thought of little kids playing back there....... man..
I might find a 2 x 4 to roll over for extra safety too.
