Roof Basket Feeler

So as the title suggests this is a feeler thread regarding roof baskets.

I know a guy here who is a long time wheeler and he has all the equipment he needs to do fab work. He helped me install my Daystar leveling kit yesterday and we got to talking. He is going to build me a roof basket then sliders and possibly skid plates. I told him I would start this thread and ask around to see if their is any interest. I'm not sure on price yet and I know this makes all the difference. He is an ARB/Yukon distributor and he guarantees me he will beat ARB and Yakima prices. He said he could do both square or round tubing and dimple-dye everything else. There will also be a flat piece on the front to deflect air. As I said this is just a feeler and I am just seeing if their is any interest. Either way he will be making me one and I just want to help him and all my other 4 runner friends out. He would not be able to start till probably November as he does have another business to run. Please ask all the questions you want and I will forward them to him. Oh one more thing he will not paint or powdercoat as it is way outrageous around here. Thanks

Eventhough there is already a guy on here who is already making roof racks/baskets I say the more options available the better for the consumer. I am ALL for this and have been eying baskets and racks for awhile now.

I agree. It is not like he is trying to make his living on this or compete with Arb. He is just willing to fab some stuff up. He is a 4 wheelin guy and understands how it is.

I would be interested in a Gobi Stealth rack style with a Baja Utility Spy light combo/mix.

As far as the Gobi rack goes. I know he could do something like that. I personally will be wanting it a bit taller on all the sides. Mine will be mainly used to stack camping equipment when we take the pop up out. The light bar is a great idea and again I will run that by him. Red your idea of a flat rack for tents is a good idea also. I like the idea of maybe having removable sides so it makes it more versatile. Either way I will talk to him and see what we can do. Any other ideas?

I was looking around the other day and I don't think there are any flat racks for the 4th gen to mount a roof top tent to.

Baja rack only makes them for the 5th gen.

I would be interested in a modular design with flat-top bed that can be built-up with various "side rail packages" for those of us who want Gobi Stealth Style racks and taller Baja Style units. But something I would absolutely like to see is one that matches the roof curvature in the front if you are making it a full length rack (I myself have been meaning to measure that curve for my own future project)

I have a Curt roof basket. Fits great, seems durable and has served me well for 9 months, including 40 miles of daily driving while carrying my spare, ratcheted down. And it's the cheapest by far!
