Roof Basket

I started making a basket a couple of weeks ago and today got to a point so I could mount it. I still have more to do to it. I should be done by next weekend. I have to mount 2 more lights on front and 2 flood lights on back then wire everything in..What do ya'll recommend for flood lights? I need something that will light up the back so when I'm loading my boat at night I can see the trailer better. It's a pain not being able to see...Anything else I need to do to it...Never mind the holes at the front, I don't know if I'm going to weld them closed or but plastic bushings in there.

Looks sharp dude. I like the length, height, and profile. It will look even better with the additional lights.

Wow that's nice..how much did that cost u?
I'm planning on doing something similar but not sure what material to use.

Nice Rack! HA HA! Seriously though....great work! :trophy: I can't tell you which lights to buy.....but Blcktpgsr has used some PIAA'S I think on his back hatch as reverse lights....they seem to be pretty bright........

Can u tell us the measurements of the rack?

Height --- 6" ( outside edge )
Width ---- 41" ( outside edge )
Length --- 59" ( top rail - outside edge )
64" ( bottom rail - outside edge )

I used 3/4" square tubing and 3/16" plate for the mounting tabs..I used the
factory rails with the factory nuts and bought 10 bolts (8mm I think ) w/ washers to secure it. ( 5 each side )

I'll get pic's of the mounting when I take it off to finish it up.....

It cost about $65 for everything, I think..
87 cents per foot for the tubing (50') 3/4" square tubing
2 cans of primer ( $6 )
2 cans of spray on bed liner ( $14 )

Nice job man... Turned out nice. I am glad someone else built their own rack too.. Did you use steel or aluminum? The welder I bought is way to picky when it comes to welding aluminum or else I would re-build my rack and weld everything. Looks good though man. Im curious to see how you mounted it up to your factory rack. It looks good and clean, I like how it is so low to your roof too.. whats the bottom of it look like? (the part you put the cargo on)

The only suggestion I have for you is to build in a hi-jack mounting point on there.

It is steel. I don't have a spool gun for welding aluminum...I will post pic's of the mounting and the bottom as soon as I get a chance to take some pic's. Thanks for the comments..........
