Thanks, Jim. It is tuff because looking at all the pics on-line don't give me a great visual. I am trying to locate some authorized vendors in my area to maybe try a few out and see compatibilty to measure up with my kayak specs. Of course it has to look good and even more important is the the functionality.

I know I have at least one pic of it on my truck but I was taking a picture of my house so the truck is not really the subject and so it is not a great picture of the rack. I'll check for that and see if I have another.

I like Thules' gear. You should be able to get their mounting pads for the kayak and affix the pads to the basket.
I just bought the Thule Expedition Large basket as it has lighter weight and less wind drag when unloaded. When it is assembled and mounted I'll post some photos. I won't be putting anything really heavy up here so all aluminum construction was good for me.

If I recall correctly, the 120lb limit is partly due to the limitations of the cross braces. If you use Thule cross bars with your new basket you can up that limit.
I went with the all aluminum 28 pound basket so that I could have almost 100 pounds of payload up top without removing/augmenting/replacing the factory cross braces. The trick is to mount the basket close to the ends of the cross braces where they mount to the main rails which ultimately support the payload weight.

I am picking up what your putting down. My buddy and i were discussing the same thing the other day. It is all about the cross bars and that I should attach the unit as close to the side bars as possible.
The basket rack is 44lbs and the new kayak i am getting will be about 50lbs. The other things i am gonna use it for are backpacks and surf rods. All should be well.
