I don't know how the kayak mounts you have in mind secure, but two steel would be sufficient for the weight.

Thanks for the pics. the shape of the rails are different from James Bouard tent. Can the sliders fit in JB tent rails?

saw a post on here a while back showing an alternative to just silicone to fill the roof holes. Anybody got the link? User seemed to be using a kind of putty then put a rubber ring or something.

I've used black RTV silicone. It works good and isn't a whole lot of work to reverse.

Artec crossbar rack

I have also been looking into a more simple and low profile roof rack/crossbar approach and one I'm looking into right now is artec industries rack with 4 crosssbars and two low profile side rails and mounts into the existing factory rails. Does anyone have one of these and had any experience with it. It seems affordable too. Toyota 4Runner 5G Roof Rack Kit
