Roof rack advice?

I have also been looking into a more simple and low profile roof rack/crossbar approach and one I'm looking into right now is artec industries rack with 4 crosssbars and two low profile side rails and mounts into the existing factory rails. Does anyone have one of these and had any experience with it. It seems affordable too. Toyota 4Runner 5G Roof Rack Kit

that looks pretty cool..I like how it mounts to the existing rails..

New and need help

Looking for suggestions for a roof rack that can handle work and play. Work meaning holding extension ladders (I am a home inspector) and play, we go hiking, camping, fishing, scuba diving etc and need to be able to hold all equipment and luggage.

LFD...I’m ordering their no drill 3/4 rack with wind fairing and aluminum crossbars. The slot system is completely modular, and it’s all under $800 shipped. This new rack system is one of the smartest and well built I have seen.

Installed the Artec industries Venture roof rack last night..

Nice product, good quality powder coating..feel like it should hold up well..

Nice rig. Good to see another option to compare to the LFD system which I'm liking a lot. An way you can post pictures of how it looks from afar? My one complaint from just looking at all the LFD setups is lack of a "guard rail" (for lack of a better term) on the sides (and even the back) like i see on the Artec system you installed. Cheers!

I was initially looking at the LFD just wound up going with this one instead. the guard/side rail was something that was important to me..I can snap a few more pics today. one thing it is missing is the fairing but I haven't noticed any real wind noise at this point.

Cool. Will look out for them. And I was going to ask about the fairing. Do they not offer it?

Awesome. Nice setup. Decisions decisions...:decision:

I'll post some pics of my choice hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks again for the info and pics!

I never thought I would need a roof rack, but find myself in the gulf coast these days. in the event that I'm ordered to "bug out" i need to grab my two 90 lb GSD's and roll out. Of course Gobi was the first option i looked at, but is way over kill for my needs. I just need something that I can mount up quick load up a few essentials, some bags, tent, collapsed dog kennels and maybe a fuel can or two. Right now I'm looking at:

LFD Off Road - Ruggedized Crossbar 5th Gen

ROLA Vortex Roof Rack - Free Shipping on ROLA Vortex Roof Cargo Basket

Not sure how it will work out. What do you guys think?

Artec Venture

I've been checking out options just like this for a few days and
this Artec Venture looks awesome! Definitely my favorite over the other similar options in this thread and elsewhere. I like the level at which the cross rails sit and the raised edges of the side rails. It's just enough of a step up in capability and functionality to meet my needs w/o going full aftermarket roof-rack.

Just finished installing my LHD crossbars. I bought the powder coated black ones, took all of 10 minutes to install. Like others have said, my plan and the bonus factor is to add two more, then go full rack at a later date. Plus, you don't have to pop off the rear piece on the factory rail. Quality construction.

thread revival!

JAXJeremy how is the Artec Venture rack holding up? Any likes or dislikes about it?

Thanks!

The rack is holding up great, although I haven't used it that much. There was a small nick in the powder coating but it hasn't been a problem. I did replace the hardware with stainless to keep it from rusting..The look is exactly what I wanted. One thing I miss that the Frontrunner racks have is the different attachments, but I could probably find a way to make those work if I really wanted to.

It does look good from what I've seen. Any chance you could show some images of the truck, from even further back?

Is that LFD or is there an LHD also?

Installed my BajaRack flat rack last month and love this thing, highly recommend it for someone looking for a low profile rack that's high quality and no drill, especially if you have a sunroof

Hello guys and girls,

New member here as I just took delivery of my first 4 Runner two days ago.

I've tried the search function, and perhaps I just need more time to learn the site, but I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for. And evidently I have to have some number of posts before I can start a thread of my own to ask a question... So, I'll throw it in here and see in anyone can answer it for me...

2018 SR5 Premium 4wd. Just ordered a set of 50" Yakima bars and Timberline towers last night. Then this morning I decided to go ahead and order the fairing as well. According to Yakima's fit guide, the 40" fairing is the appropriate one for my vehicle. But since I'm out of town and away from the vehicle, I can't measure to confirm. I'm guessing Yakima knows best, but before spending the money, I'd like to confirm with people that have experience with them.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Yakima, Rhino Rack, and Thule offer a whole lot of great options for kayaks and skis and offer aerodynamic bars that you can attach to your factory rails.

You don't need a different roof rack unless what you're carrying won't fit into or onto the more sports-oriented racks. Yakima doesn't really offer much for tents, fuel cans, Maxtrax, etc.

I'm just hauling a surfboard that I've been strapping to my OEM cross bars. It's been working for years on my 4th gen. But now I want to upgrade to a 5th gen. Does anyone know if my 4th gen bars will fit across a 5th gen? I've been searching parts sites and cannot find an answer so I joined up here.

Thanks very much
