I removed the roof rack cross bars today. The end caps on the long rails pop out sideways; then the cover hinges upward. I use a Thule roof rack when carrying stuff and it clamps to the long rails, so I do not ever need the cross bars. It may fractionally help in gas mileage. I probably will not check it. It will, however, make snow removal easier
