roof rack delete

I decided that I wanted to remove my factory roof rack. I never used it, and eventually I'll upgrade to a full Baja rack or something. so I searched around, and surprisingly not many 4th gen owners have removed their rack and left it that way (instead of replacing it with a cargo rack or whatever). I did find this thread about doing the same for a 5th gen:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/79563-diy-roof-rack-delete-w-pics.html

so.. I figured what the heck, I'll order up the parts and see if the pieces fit the 4th gen. and they do! so here's my short writeup with some pics. i'll start with the process after the rack is already off.

here is the parts list again, for reference:

8pcs - Part# 90119-08C47 (roof bolts w/ rubber washers)
4pcs - Part# 63185-42020 (roof brackets w/ foam pads)
4pcs - Part# 75596-35030 (roof plastic covers)

you'll need: a 10mm socket and probably a scrub sponge with some soap, and something to scrape off the old foam.

remove all the old foam:

place the clip over the holes with the small arrow point out (the arrow is hard to see in the pic):

then clip the molding into place with the arrow pointing out, and scrub the old grime off the paint:

and now enjoy your truck without the rack!

Nice, I think there are a couple of members around here somewhere who have done it... I went rack less for a while when I ordered my Gobi and sold my OEM rack to recoup some $ before the Gobi arrived.

I'm not sure I understand why you spent the money on the rack delete parts if you're eventually going to get an aftermarket rack though.

it was really only about $50 worth of parts. and I may not have another rack for 6 months or so. I can always re-use the parts, too, if I get a new rack and don't want to keep it on permanently.

but for now, I wanted to make it look clean and keep water out of the empty mounting points.

Thanks for the part #'s, I like it much better w/o the rack and will be doing that to mine.

How much were you able to sell you OEM rack for? Seems the market would be flooded with so many custom racks going on runners while unlikely many OEM racks get damaged.

Next to nobody is buying factory racks.. I had to look around for a while just to give mine away. Back in 2011 when that post was written there may have been a much different market for them lol.

I know this is an old thread but I am probably going to do a Roof Rack Delete. It actually does not look bad and I never use the top rack. I am painting the rack in case I sell it and keeping it but I think the rackless looks OK in silver at least. This is a 2007 Sport 4Runner with moonroof that had the plastic mounted rack. It has less wind noise on the hi way and slightly better gas mileage so that is a small plus.

My plan is to leave the rear large spoiler on long term. I will be removing it to paint it silver ID4 though so I will take photos. The plastic parts of this 2007 4runner need to be replaced and or repainted. It was a Arizona vehicle and the sun trashed all the painted plastic parts. The rest of the car is mint.....and it has 247,000 miles.

Here are the side Mirrors. I am replacing with new factory mirrors. I am not going with aftermarket mirrors as the last ones I bought shook to much on the interstate. Not all aftermarket mirrors shake but unless you have first hand knowledge on the type you are buying you might buy some that do shake. Shaking mirrors makes the whole car feel cheap so its not worth it to me.

Side mirror refresh

Hello. I was planning to spray paint my side mirrors myself because they look faded like yours. Did you replace with OEM? Where did you get the OEM from? Please provide links. Much appreciated. Thanks.
