roof rack front support pad material?

I made some custom brackets to mount a Rola rack to the factory channels except for in the front where there is a foot/pad that supports the rack directly onto the roof forward of the factory channels without bolts or drilling (just like Gobi or Bajarack). I've pretty much got the everything finished except I can't decide what material to pad the front supports with. I've never seen a Gobi or Bajarack in person so I don't know hard those pads are. Some people call them foam others call them hard rubber. Can anyone suggest a material and what hardness to use for this? I'm seeing lots of options on McMaster for rubber, neoprene, EDPM in various hardnesses...option paralysis...lil' help!

I took pictures test fitting the rack, but unfortunately forgot to snap a close up of where the front supports are. You can sorta see the gap between the roof and the front support in the first pic...you guys get the idea.

Not sure how your front supports work exactly, but my Whitson rack uses 3M double sided tape on the front supports.
